FRIENDS OF JOHN JAY JAGUARS BASEBALL ANNUAL FUNDRAISER New York City is the largest and one of the most segregated school districts in the United States. But one public high school program in Brooklyn is trying to change that, leveling the playing field – as they say – through sports. In 2021, four high schools inside the John Jay Educational Campus — John Jay School for Law, Cyberarts Studio Academy, Park Slope Collegiate and Millennium Brooklyn High School —and Millennium High School Manhattan, united to form The John Jay Jaguars, an athletic program designed to unite a divided Brooklyn public school campus. Our players come from diverse backgrounds, who are committed to the rigors that come with participating on a  competitive high school sports team. To support our student-athletes and our hardworking and dedicated coaching staff, both financially and administratively, we formed <span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial;font-weight:700;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;font-variant-position:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">Friends of John Jay Baseball to <span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial;font-weight:700;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;font-variant-position:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">raise the money we need to ensure that every member of our team has access to the same resources and opportunities. We are here to support each and every player on our team, helping them to meet their potential as athletes and students. This year, to give more students the opportunity to be a part of our baseball program, we added a Junior Varsity Team, which joins our existing Varsity Team. But more players means we need more money to support this expansion and to ensure equity for every player. <span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial;font-weight:700;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;font-variant-position:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">Currently, we need to raise money to pay for equipment and stipends for assistant coaches for both teams. Most importantly, we are raising money so that every player has the opportunity to take part in team activities, including annual  trips and training camps, which are key to training and bonding ahead of the upcoming season. If the John Jay Jaguars program succeeds, it can be a model for the rest of the city to promote equity in athletics, highlighting how more resource-sharing across co-housed programs can be beneficial to all students.
