The Clayton Crescent is 3 years old! To celebrate, we are launching a $100,000 capital campaign. We need your help to expand The Clayton Crescent's reach and to strengthen our long-term financial footing. Your monthly or one-time gift can help us achieve these goals:
- Invest in dedicated grantwriting and sponsorship staff
- Dig deeper into multiple investigations by hiring additional reporters
- Hold the powerful accountable by enforcing the Georgia Open Records Act
- Bring the news directly to more voters and residents in Clayton County and the Southern Crescent
We do not accept donations from elected or appointed public officials. We also do not apply for county-funded grants.
That costs The Clayton Crescent tens of thousands of dollars each year.
But integrity is priceless.
We are not beholden to any candidate, to any campaign, to any elected official, to any appointed board member.
As the only local news organization placing residents' needs first, The Clayton Crescent has proven itself over its first three years in business by:
- Uncovering public corruption (investigative reporting, data collection and analysis, Open Records requests)
- Holding public officials accountable (we bring the receipts)
- Fighting for citizens' right to know what their government is doing (e.g., Open Meetings Act violations, recorded meetings)
- Questioning wasteful public spending (e.g., abuse of travel allowances, misspent campaign funds)
- Standing up for everyday citizens and "the least of these" (e.g., pretrial detainees, people experiencing homelessness, "sacrifice zones")
- Connecting community members with each other, with their elected officials in local, county, state, and federal government, and with the world at large (without serious, timely local news coverage, Clayton County residents can't know what's going on in time to do something about it)
The Clayton Crescent is a nonprofit newsroom for a reason. We are not here to suck money out of our community and liquidate the assets for our own personal gain. We are not here to put a lid on the information you need to make decisions about your finances, your family, and your future. And we are not here to spread the kinds of personal attacks, propaganda, and straight-up lies on social media that paid political operatives offer up for your daily consumption.
We serve the people. We bully the bullies.
Our primary mission is to bring problems to light so that you and your neighborscan address ways to solve those problems. An informed citizenry has the power to make better decisions about who should govern them.
We dig deep into each candidate for office. We tell you what we find. We present supporting documents. We never endorse candidates or tell you how to vote.
But none of this is free.
You can help us reach every single Clayton County resident with your monthly gift of $20 or more.
And if you can't afford $20 a month, we welcome your gift in any amount with the same gratitude as we show our biggest foundation donors. Not one cent of it gets wasted.
If you own a small business (or a large corporation!), e-mail us about sponsoring The Clayton Crescent. Your company will get prestige placement (we have a unique readership, both inside and outside the county) and the satisfaction of helping your customers become better-informed citizens.
Our job is to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
And the truth is a precious commodity.
Invest in the truth. Invest in a better Clayton County.
Invest in The Clayton Crescent.
In the spirit of community,
Robin Kemp
