We are rallying support for the preservation of the City of Miami Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum, a unique historical site that encapsulates the struggles of segregation in America. Despite being referred to as the Negro Precinct, the officers who served here were denied equal treatment compared to their white counterparts. They were not recognized as full police officers, faced disparities in pay and benefits, and had limited authority, unable to even arrest white suspects unless the crime was witnessed directly. The narratives of these officers, their families, and the broader community are vital to preserve and share, shedding light on their contributions despite facing systemic injustice. Our mission is to raise funds for the Oral History & Artifacts Project, focusing on the period from the 1920s to 1970. We aim to uncover further insights into the "First Five" black officers who began serving in September 1944, as well as the pioneering Judge Lawson E. Thomas and the five Jewish judges who bravely served alongside them.  The $20,000 raised will directly support: 1. Outreach efforts to locate individuals who lived during our target period.2. Advertising campaigns in local newspapers and on radio to raise awareness about our project and encourage participation.3. Sustainable follow-up to ensure collected materials are properly preserved and made accessible for visitors.4. Upgrading equipment for efficient storage and digitization of documents and artifacts.5. Hosting three Community Engaged events targeting historically marginalized communities, including Coconut Grove, Overtown, and Liberty City/Brownsville, which the officers patrolled and protected between 1944-1963.
