Studio 303 is a home base for experimental dance and performance artists in Montreal. We do our utmost to provide flexible, accessible, unconventional as well as caring support through workshops, residencies, public events and much more. Our organizational culture embraces power-sharing, transparency and a healthy work-life balance.

Dear friends, colleagues and community,

How are you doing? How are you right now? 

Right now, we humans working at Studio 303 are excited and anxious. We’re finding our “sea legs”, and feeling hopeful. We are, as you probably are too, still navigating an ever shifting in-between place. 

We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished this season. We managed to hold onto some core programming AND create new eventsin response to artists' needs in real time: with Grant Spa and Tax Spa, we turned dreaded necessary tasks into supportive collective experiences; we produced four artist-led podcaststo make sense of our “shapeshifting” dance landscape, and hosted an interactive workshop for upcoming dance creators whose artistic practice has come of age in a mostly virtual context.

The chaos of the pandemic was partially freeing as arts fundors adjusted their expectations, trusting that we’d do our best. This “no strings attached” trust gave us more leeway to follow our hearts and intuition, liberating us from the limits of a strategic planning mindset. We yearn for more trust! When you give unconditionally, we feel it. You validate our values and the soundness of qualitative data. You make it easier for us to adapt to rapidly shifting circumstances and carve out space for playfulness and spontaneity. This flexibility and pleasure helps us resist some of the fossilizing effects of institutionalization. 

In our never-ending quest to maximise care and creativity, while reducing budgetary and personal energy deficits, your generosity is what allows our way of operating, being, and showing up for one another.
