Do you ever have days that start off normally and end much different than you thought they would? November 8th was a beautiful sunny day here in West Guilford. The Trailhead Eatery construction was progressing, summer camp registrations were piling in and life at Medeba was moving along as normal. And then, in the afternoon, a fire started in one of our woodshed/boiler buildings.  We are unsure about the cause of the fire, but suspect this was a malfunction in the chimney system. This is a significant loss for Medeba, as our woodsheds and boilers are a main heat source for the winter months. We will need to use temporary heat sources for this winter, and we will need to rebuild this building as soon as possible. Using the wood boilers is a very cost-effective method for Medeba. We will need to be ready for next winter, which likely means building in the spring so we can be stocking it with wood over the summer. Medeba needs our friends and supporters to rally with us now, as our team rallied with each other and firefighters on November 8th. The cost to rebuild this building will be around $10,000. We are also going to use this opportunity to replace the 15-year-old boiler with an upgraded model including a more robust chimney system, which will cost an additional $20,000.
