Memorandum: Scholarship Fund

We are excited to announce our 3rd Annual Smilin' Rylen Scholarship!  The Scholarship was initially started by Rylen's Grandparents Betsy and Rick Mudra, affectionately known as Mimi and PawPaw by there grandchildren, to Honor their Grandson Rylen Cowan.  Rylen or Smilin' Rylen, as we call him, passed away in 2017 after a sudden and hard fight with bacterial meningitis at the young age of 13 and a half months.  Though his death was tragic and we miss him every day we take comfort in knowing that his life gave life to others through the gift of organ donation.  Rylen was able to donate 5 organs, his kidneys, liver, heart and small intestines, and these life saving gifts helped 5 individuals ranging in age from 1 year old to 43 years old.Rylen's parents were blessed to know an individual that was a multiple organ recipient.  Rylen's story begins because we were granted a glimpse at what organ donation can do for a family and friends.  Part of our mission is to help raise awareness about organ donation so that others may be saved through selfless acts of kindness and generosity.  As part of that mission, the Smilin' Rylen Scholarship was born to bring awareness about the subject of organ donation to our young adults graduating from high school and working toward their high education goals.  The 3rd Annual Smilin' Rylen Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior in the  Katy ISD school district.  The Scholarship funds are raised annually and awarded to the senior who plans to attend an accredited college, university, or institution of higher learning in the Fall of 2025 (two-year, four-year, or technical school).  The Smilin' Rylen Scholarship has awarded at total of $2,400.00 to two amazing Katy High School Seniors and we look forward to this year's scholarship winner.  Your help and generosity help these seniors to continue to accel in their lives while allowing all the applicants an opportunity to grow and learn about organ donation at its benefits. For additional information about the scholarship or the Smilin' Rylen Foundation please visit <a style="text-decoration-color:currentcolor;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit">www.smilinrylenfoundation.org</a>
