He made three more trips to Kenya, each time finding his connection growing deeper, and the people he met along the way also found a deep connection with him. His generous spirit touched many lives in both small and profound ways. Stephen was a man who was deeply devoted to his family, and he found extended family in Kenya, by spirit if not by blood, and extended his generosity to them. In 2023, without hesitation, he agreed to be on the founding board of Ushirika Foundation and from that point on was invaluable in raising awareness and funds for the projects of the foundation which are centered around supporting local communities through education and wildlife conservation programs. Some of the projects that benefited from his selfless efforts were: Fire Disaster Relief for Ololchurra Primary School, Student Sponsorships, desks so that students were no longer sitting three and four to a desk, beds for the girls' dormitory, Kenya Birds of Prey Trust, and the Forrest Guardian Project. Beyond the funds that he raised, his efforts conveyed to many that there are people who care.  Ushirika means "partnership" in Swahili. Stephen's partnership will be missed, but he has left a legacy that will continue. If you would like to honor Stephen by partnering with Ushirika Foundation, there are several ways to donate: ~Make a one time donation ~Make scheduled donations over a period of time with a finite end date ~Make a sustaining donation of the amount of your choosing at intervals of your choosing ~You may also choose to sponsor a student with a sustaining donation of $70 per month. This pays for tuition, board, uniforms, school supplies, and transportation between home and school during breaks. Notes about the online donation form: Preset amounts are provided, but you may enter any amount that you wish. Zeffy does not charge a fee to Ushirika to process donations. In lieu of this to cover their costs, a percentage of your donation is added to cover their expense. THIS IS STRICTLY OPTIONAL. The default setting is to add a fee, but you may edit it to any amount, including zero. Unspecified donations will be put toward our building fund for safer and adequate teacher housing and girl's dorm for Ololcurra Primary School. Olochurra is a small rural village in the Maasai Mara which is home to a primary school that strives for academic excellence in spite of very limited resources. The school promotes equal education for girls. Many of the surrounding families struggle to pay the school fees and government support is sadly insufficient. Stephen, partner, father, friend, brother, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
