A self-described science nerd and Black artist, Jen reinvests in the places that shaped her by crafting “third spaces” — joyful, imaginative installations that spark curiosity and agency. Inspired by her first Burn in 2010, and apprenticeships with engineers, architects, and artists, Jen creates interactive sculptures that invite us to experience the environment from a radically different point of view. Most recently, Jen was Build Lead for Erin Douglas’ 2024 Burning Man installation, The Shop. 🍎COMPOST PLAYGROUND IS AN INTERACTIVE ART INSTALLATION DEBUTING AT BURNING MAN 2025. This year’s featured piece, The Apple Core, is a climbable, crawl-able jungle gym modeled after discarded fruit — seen through the eyes of an earthworm. The goal? To teach circularity and sustainability through embodied play. Future installations include: a banana peel slide, watermelon rind monkey bars, and bell pepper shade structure. Each is playful, a little subversive, and secretly educational — designed to grow curiosity about soil, systems, and our role in the ecosystem 🌍 WHY IT MATTERS<ul><li>Over 60% of landfill waste is compostable — but most people don’t know how to compost.</li><li>Soil extinction is a real, growing threat.</li><li>Climate education must be hands-on, not hypothetical.</li></ul> That’s why this piece was awarded a grant by The Lotus Fund and is fiscally sponsored by Five Ton Crane. The Apple Core is the first of many — and when the Burn is over, we aim to install this growing compost “fruit salad” in food deserts, public libraries, and museums across the country.  It’s art that travels.
