April 2-3, 2025, NCSA will launch its inaugural D.C. Fly-In to bring authentic awareness to Capitol Hill. Individuals with severe autism and related disorders are underrepresented, underserved, and underresearched. The NCSA National Grassroots Network plans to host more than 100 advocates from across the nation to meet face-to-face with their elected officials in Washington, D.C. Advocates will enjoy presentations from top thought leaders in severe and profound autism such as Jill Escher & Amy Lutz (NCSA), Judith Ursitti (Profound Autism Alliance), and Alison Singer (Autism Science Foundation). All attendees will also receive targeted advocacy training and curated toolkits from legislative policy experts such as Craig Snyder (Ikon Consulting), Gayle Gerdes (Health Policy Source), Ashley Kim Weiss (Together for Choice), and Jackie Kancir (NCSA). We will spend our final day collectively engaging with members of both the US Senate and US House of Representatives with specific legislative asks that we feel will help bring us closer to solutions for housing and medical access. NCSA leadership will be staying an extra day to also engage with regulatory agencies that play a critical role in these matters. These families have endured years of high acuity caregiving, often with little to no access to appropriate services.
