The inhabitants of Mahwah, like all their fellow citizens of Bergen County, were uneasy about these visitors. Long-time enemies, the French had become America&rsquo;s allies in 1778. But New Jerseyans knew little about the French or how they would behave. Conversely the French soldiers marching into Mahwah knew just as little about what awaited them in New Jersey. This illustrated talk provides examples of Franco-American encounters and mutual impressions of people and their customs, the process of &ldquo;getting to know each other, and the beauty of northern New Jersey, called le Jardin d&rsquo;Am&eacute;rique by French officers.&nbsp; About the speaker: Robert A Selig, Ph.D., has been the consultant and project historian to the National Park Service for the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail Project.&nbsp; <p fr-original-style="box-sizing:border-box;background:rgb(232, 240, 255);border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px 0px 20px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:none;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Roboto, Tahoma, Geneva, Kalimati, sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-style:normal;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-caps:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;line-height:1.5;width:100%;" style="box-sizing: border-box; background: rgb(232, 240, 255); border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 20px; vertical-align: baseline; outline: none; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Roboto, Tahoma, Geneva, Kalimati, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; line-height: 1.5; width: 100%;">Any necessary information will be sent to the email you provide.<p fr-original-style="box-sizing:border-box;background:rgb(232, 240, 255);border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px 0px 20px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:none;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Roboto, Tahoma, Geneva, Kalimati, sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-style:normal;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-caps:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;line-height:1.5;width:100%;" style="box-sizing: border-box; background: rgb(232, 240, 255); border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 20px; vertical-align: baseline; outline: none; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Roboto, Tahoma, Geneva, Kalimati, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; line-height: 1.5; width: 100%;"><strong fr-original-style="box-sizing:border-box;background:transparent;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:none;font-weight:bold;" style="box-sizing: border-box; background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; outline: none; font-weight: bold;">No physical ticket will be required or distributed.<p fr-original-style="box-sizing:border-box;background:rgb(232, 240, 255);border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px 0px 20px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:none;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Roboto, Tahoma, Geneva, Kalimati, sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-style:normal;font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-caps:normal;font-weight:400;letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;line-height:1.5;width:100%;" style="box-sizing: border-box; background: rgb(232, 240, 255); border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 20px; vertical-align: baseline; outline: none; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Roboto, Tahoma, Geneva, Kalimati, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; line-height: 1.5; width: 100%;">Museum admission: Members:&nbsp;$5 with discount code &ndash;&nbsp;Non-Members:&nbsp;$10 Not sure you&#39;re a member?&nbsp;Contact us at mahwahmuseum@gmail.com to find out.
