Overcoming Performance Anxiety (Part 1)

This practical workshop helps performers understand and manage the anxiety that can arise before and during a performance. Led by Myles, the session explores how performers can remain present and metabolise adrenaline to reduce the effects of the fight-or-flight response. Participants will learn practical techniques for developing an active, responsive mindset rather than becoming reactive or overly self-reflective.

Participants will explore:

• Recognising personal anxiety triggers
• Remaining present and connected during performance

• Metabolising adrenaline and managing the fight-or-flight response

• Developing an active rather than reactive mindset

• Using breath to regulate the nervous system
• Using poise, posture and physical awareness to slow

down and remain calm
• Recovering from mistakes and unexpected moments

• Building effective preparation routines, confidence and resilience

By the end of the workshop, participants will have practical strategies for regulating their physical and mental responses, directing nervous energy and performing with greater calm, focus and confidence.
