The people of Cuba have been severely affected by the US blockade that continues to make life extremely difficult for the Cuban people, restricting access to everyday needs such as food, health and medical supplies, and basic sanitary items. As people of faith and conscience in North America we recognize the role our governments have in sustaining these unconscionable living conditions, and we need things to change.  <span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">Despite these difficult circumstances in Cuba, faith communities there have already been undertaking this work and, in solidarity, we hope to find ways to support their efforts. MEC/SCM Cuba has worked tirelessly to serve the people of their communities, caring for the elderly and distributing food and medical supplies in the wake of hurricanes — a problem that has only been intensifying each year because of climate change.  <span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;box-sizing:inherit">Young people in the SCM Canada, Development & Peace, and WSCF-US are sending a delegation to Cuba, to learn about the work of the Student Christian Movement of Cuba and find ways to support them and connect our faith communities to ongoing Cuban solidarity efforts. We have a lot to learn from SCM/MEC Cuba who have successfully built grassroots support for a new radically inclusive Cuban Family Code that was recently voted in last year. By supporting this campaign and delegation you are helping build important relationships between young people of faith in Canada, the US, and Cuba, as well as materially providing basic supplies needed for the work SCM/MEC Cuba is doing as they serve the people of their communities.
