Due to heavy rain and the sudden onrush of water from upstream, many places in Bangladesh have been severely flooded. The opening of dams in India after 31 years have further worsened the situation. Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachori, Noakhali, Habiganj, Sunamganj, and Maulvibazar have particularly been impacted, leaving over 1.5 million people stranded. Many rivers are above their danger levels, with water levels in Habiganj breaking 50-year records. Over 100 villages in Feni have been submerged. The floods have submerged roads, houses, and farmland, disrupting communication and livelihoods for many. The flooding is expected to get worse over the coming days, affecting more districts and rivers.
