Imagine if preventative treatments and therapies were subsidized so that we could support and maintain health. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a women’s community clinic dedicated to women’s health and wellness issues? Imagine if there was a clinic on Salt Spring that blended complementary and holistic therapies together in one space so that body, mind and soul were supported, uplifted and cared for deeply? A space with therapy rooms, a phytotherapy room, a therapeutic garden all around the clinic, and a drawing room for post-treatment rest and herbal teas? It‘s here! Our Gathering Clinic opened October 2024. But we need your help to bring its vision fully to life! Community, we need you!!! Our Gathering Clinic was founded by Valerie Louvet. Returning to Canada in 2020 after living in Europe for 10 years, she noticed that CAM modalities of healthcare were not part of the health model in Canada and that on the contrary, they were expensive, weren't integrated in local clinical care centers, and were generally not well reimbursed by the large health insurance companies. Moving to Salt Spring in June 2023 she noticed an island that honoured CAM modalities but struggled with access (affordability.) The clinic, located at 151 Rainbow Rd, was created with that purpose in mind, to make holistic healthcare available and accessible for all women. This would in turn benefit the community with better health outcomes, better mental health, better self care, and a community hub by women and for women; a resource for navigating life’s health challenges as a woman! A safe gathering place to come together and uplift each other. Currently we offer clinical counselling, clinical reflexology, holistic massage therapy, hypnotherapy, holistic health coaching and an in-house community herbalist. We are actively seeking a community acupuncturist as well as more body therapy workers. As part of our long term strategic plan we are putting in place the ability to recruit and retain a holistic health Nurse Practitioner who would be attached to the clinic and be able to diagnose, prescribe and refer for more complex care needs. What will we do with your donation? First and foremost donations will go to funding the care provided in clinic. Operational costs such as rent and hiring a care manager will also be supported. No clinicians, ED, founder or board member will receive a salary paid from these donations. As a non-profit we will be creating a board of directors to help keep the clinic on the right track! In fact, we would love to hear from you if you have board experience, including as Executive Director, and would like to give to this cause by becoming a volunteer and sitting on our board.
