The research is clear: until a family has stable housing, it is very difficult—if not impossible—to help them move out of crisis. Steps like finding employment, securing childcare, enrolling children in school, replacing lost documentation, and addressing food insecurity often have to wait until housing is in place. At the same time, it is nearly impossible for families to secure housing while they are still in crisis. In today’s rental market, families experiencing homelessness are typically at the very bottom of the applicant pool. That is why, at Safe Families, we are thinking boldly—and why we are so deeply grateful for your generosity toward this project. Our vision is to build an eight-plex that can be used as short-term emergency housing for families who come to us without a home. With this resource, when a family experiencing homelessness is referred to us, we can say yes—and immediately begin supporting them as they stabilize and move out of crisis. We are excited to see the impact this project will have for families in our community. A eight-plex development allows for greater reach while maintaining dignity, safety, and relational care.
