That&rsquo;s seven thousand Canadian dollars going directly toward increasing what we can pay the artists making our Halloween Cabaret. Because here&rsquo;s the thing: Making theatre is expensive. We&rsquo;ve always prioritized paying our artists. This year, we want to pay them more. Our operating funding hasn&rsquo;t increased in over a decade. The cost of pretty much everything has gone up. Victoria has fewer and fewer affordable venues for live performance. And because we can&rsquo;t simply wander into a magical theatre waiting for us, we build our own stage in a gymnasium. We bring in what we need to transform that space into a theatrical environment.&nbsp; And, yes, even the gymnasium has gotten significantly more expensive. In that environment, it would be easy for artist wages to be the thing that gets squeezed. We don&#39;t want to do that. Our artists are already paid for their work. This campaign is about raising those wages, because the people making ambitious independent theatre in an increasingly expensive city deserve to see their compensation move in the right direction too. So this Halloween, we&#39;re asking our community to help us do something very specific: Raise $7,000. Raise artist wages. Raise hell.
