Your donation strengthens the call to stop OceanaGold in Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. On July 3rd 2026, President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos met with OceanaGold at the Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, BC. At this meeting, OceanaGold announced that they planned to invest 1.9 billion USD in the expansion and operation of the Didipio Mine in Nueva Vizcaya. While the President claims that the Didipio mines&rsquo; operation will create new jobs and boost the Phillipine economy, we see time and time again how mining is a continuation of the denial of human rights in the Philippines. On August 19, 2026, the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested 3 Indigenous land defenders in Kasibu, Nueva Viscaya.The community was opposing a project linked to the Northern Luzon Mineral Resources Corporation (NLMRC). The Phillipines remains one of the most dangerous countries on the planet for activists, as many are targeted by the Phillipines government for defending their rights and protesting such projects.&nbsp; Defenders who oppose OceanaGold&rsquo;s mines were falsely accused of sedition and were made targets of extrajudicial killings. Canada remains complicit,&nbsp;both in providing military aid to the oppressive government that routinely and violently suppresses activists, and by having very large assests in mining companies in the country, such as OceanaGold and B2Gold. Communities around the world have the right to peacefully assemble, express their opposition, and seek redress of grievances, especially when decisions affecting their lands, livelihoods, and environment are made without their meaningful participation. Your donation will go to the following:1. Supporting our day-to-day work. As a grassroots organization, we rely on donations from supporters to keep our work afloat.&nbsp; 2. Sending activists to the Kapit-Bisig ICHRP (International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines) Global Conference in September.&nbsp;5 CPSHR members are heading to Toronto to learn more about what it means to be part of an international solidarity movement. They will meet activists from around the world and bring lessons back to share! 3. Sending activists to the Philippines on Human Rights missions and exposure trips. ICHRP conducts International Observer Missions (IOMs) and fact-finding missions to document and report on human rights violations. Our activists are sent to see the conditions on the ground and to learn from people in the Philippines.
