Help Mélisa’s legacy continue to inspire many generations of student-athletes on the Gee-Gees women’s hockey team for years to come.  Mélisa M.L. Kingsley was born August 2, 1998, in Sudbury, Ontario. The second of three children, she was known for her beautiful smile, her laughter, and her relentless desire to succeed. Mélisa excelled in school and participated in many sports but, from an early age, she especially thrived when playing hockey. From high school to provincial and national championships, Mélisa enjoyed the game. When she became a member of the University of Ottawa Gee Gees women’s hockey team, she realized her dream of playing university hockey with lifelong friends. Unfortunately, her university studies and her hockey career were cut short. In August 2016, Mélisa was set to begin university when she was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare type of cancer. She stayed positive, always dreaming of the future, and never let the disease define her. She attended university a year later and played for the Gee-Gees but sadly, sarcoma took Mélisa from us in October 2018. Mélisa has left this world, but thanks to her spirit, her generosity and her love for everyone she knew, she has left a wonderful legacy in her community and among her friends and family. «No longer by our side but forever in our hearts’’ MK23 With support from her teammates, family and the University of Ottawa Athletics Department the Mélisa Kingsley memorial scholarship was established in early 2020.  Your contribution to Mélisa’s scholarship will contribute to the support of a student-athlete on the Gee-Gees women’s hockey team each year from Northern Ontario who demonstrates outstanding potential for the sport of hockey. Aidez-nous à garder le souvenir de Mélisa bien vivant, afin qu’il inspire la relève en hockey féminin pour les générations à venir. Mélisa M.L. Kingsley est née le 2 août 1998 à Sudbury, en Ontario. Deuxième de trois enfants, elle était connue pour son magnifique sourire, son rire et son insatiable goût de la réussite. Mélisa excellait à l’école et pratiquait plusieurs sports, mais depuis son plus jeune âge, elle était vraiment dans son élément lorsqu’elle jouait au hockey. De l’école secondaire jusqu’aux championnats provinciaux et nationaux, Mélisa adorait se retrouver sur la patinoire. Quand elle s’est jointe à l’équipe de hockey féminin des Gee-Gees de l’Université d’Ottawa, elle a réalisé son rêve de jouer au hockey universitaire avec ses amies de longue date. Malheureusement, elle n’aura pas pu poursuivre ses études universitaires et sa carrière de hockeyeuse. En août 2016, alors qu’elle s’apprêtait à amorcer son expérience universitaire, Mélisa a reçu un diagnostic de sarcome synovial, un type de cancer rare. Elle est restée optimiste, s’accrochant toujours à ses rêves d’avenir, et n’a jamais laissé sa maladie la définir.
