We&rsquo;re building a home for regional fibre, textile skills and community. The West Kootenay Fibreshed is working toward opening a physical Fibreshed Learning Centre: a shared place where people can gather to learn, make, repair, process fibre and reconnect with the materials that make up our everyday lives.Over the past few years, we&rsquo;ve watched an incredible community grow around flax, wool, alpaca fibre, natural dyes, sewing, mending and other place-based textile skills. Our workshops fill. Our shared tools are being used. Growers, farmers, artists, makers and curious beginners are finding one another. Now, we need a home for that work! The Fibreshed Learning Centre will give us space for hands-on workshops and deeper learning, shared textile and fibre-processing equipment, natural dyeing, sewing and mending, weaving and spinning, our regional fibre tool library, community gatherings and opportunities for artists, farmers and makers to share their knowledge. It will also allow us to do something bigger: build lasting infrastructure for a regional textile culture. We are raising $40,000 in startup funds to help turn this vision into a functioning community space. These funds will help us secure and prepare a space, purchase essential equipment and furnishings, establish dedicated fibre-processing and natural-dyeing areas, create shared workspaces and cover the practical startup costs required to open the doors. This is about creating a place where a stalk of locally grown flax can become linen. Where a fleece can become yarn. Where a torn garment can be repaired instead of discarded. Where traditional skills can be shared between generations. Where artists have access to tools they could not necessarily own themselves. And where more people can understand the agricultural, ecological and human systems behind the cloth they use every day. Our goal is $40,000. Every contribution brings us closer to opening the doors.
