Since 1966, the North Peace Seniors Housing Society has been providing affordable housing solutions for seniors in Fort St. John and the surrounding areas. Over the years, we have expanded our reach to support the entire community, allowing everyone to participate in our programs, whether or not they reside in one of our 144 housing units.As part of our mission, we host two impactful programs funded by United Way: Better at Home and Community Connector. Additionally, we collaborate with organizations such as the Seniors Care Foundation while also directly funding the Seniors Spaces and Wellbeing Program. These initiatives play a crucial role in fostering social connections, mental health, and physical well-being through free, inclusive activities and shared spaces.This support is especially vital in a rural community that experiences up to six months of winter, with temperatures often dropping to -40°C or even -50°C. Our programs create safe and welcoming environments for seniors of all backgrounds, including Indigenous and LGBTQ+ individuals, ensuring they remain connected and supported year-round.<hr />Activities and Services We Currently ProvideOur programs offer a range of free or low-cost activities designed to enhance seniors' physical, emotional, and social well-being. These activities rely heavily on volunteers, while the Society covers the maintenance and operational costs to ensure these spaces remain accessible to the community. Weekly offerings include:<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Monday: Hair and Foot Care; Bingo (Drop-In Centre)</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Tuesday: Wii Bowling; Chair Yoga (Building 3)</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Wednesday: Live Band Music Night; Afternoon Sanctuary</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Thursday: Hair and Foot Care</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Friday: Bible Study</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Sunday: Live Band Music Night; Country Dance (Activity Room B1); Gardening Groups (Solarium in B3 and B2); Bingo (Building 3)</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Monday to Friday: Canbriam Room - Telehealth Appointments and Virtual Support Groups (Building 3)</li></ul><hr />Why Your Support MattersOperating these programs, maintaining communal spaces, and providing below-market-rate housing with utilities included require substantial resources, especially during times of inflation and national economic challenges.
