More than thirty years ago, when we began distributing shmura matzo with clear instructions on how to fulfill this Torah requirement, most Ottawa Jews were puzzled by the odd round matzos and shocked to learn that there was a specific time and an amount of matzo that needed to be consumed to fulfill the mitzva. Today, dozens of families who received their first shmura matzo as a gift purchase their own and share shmura matzo with their acquaintances. Each year, we aim to reach more people who are unfamiliar with this mitzva. The cost of acquiring matzos&nbsp;for distribution, even without increasing distribution this year, will be more than double what it cost us just three years ago. The distribution cost will also be higher due to rising fuel prices.
