Help To Ensure Regulatory Changes Serve the Public Interest Solid Ground Mental Health (SGMH) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote accountability, transparency, and the upholding of regulatory standards governing mental health professionals to ensure safe and effective client care. SGMH is raising funds to obtain independent legal advice regarding the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario&#39;s (CPBAO) proposed regulatory modernization initiative. While regulatory reform can play an important role in improving professional oversight, proposed changes must be carefully examined to ensure they strengthen (not weaken) public protection, accountability, transparency, and professional standards. Decisions made today could have lasting consequences for clients, practitioners, and the integrity of mental health care in Ontario and nation-wide. To support this work, (SGMH) has retained legal counsel from <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.conwaylitigation.ca/?utm_source=chatgpt.com" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Conway Litigation</a>, an Ottawa-based litigation firm with experience in public law, administrative and regulatory law, appellate advocacy, and complex public-interest matters. The firm has acted in significant regulatory, constitutional, and judicial review proceedings and provides the expertise necessary to help SGMH navigate this evolving process.Funding will support legal advice at multiple stages of this process. This includes assessing the current proposals, understanding available legal and regulatory options during ongoing consultations and decision-making, and exploring potential avenues for action in the future, including after the Ontario Ministry of Health has reached a decision on the proposed regulatory changes. Obtaining timely legal guidance will help ensure that any response is informed, strategic, and focused on protecting the public interest. We have already committed resources to securing legal representation and establishing an initial retainer. However, the scope and complexity of this matter will require additional legal analysis, support, and advocacy as the regulatory process unfolds. We are therefore seeking additional donations to increase our legal retainer and ensure that we have the resources necessary to respond effectively at every stage of the process. Donations received to date range from $100 to $2,000. Suggested donation is around $250 (or one billable clinical hour). Donations will be accepted until August 14th, 2026. Your donation will help ensure that important questions are asked, potential risks are properly evaluated, and public-interest perspectives are meaningfully represented in discussions that may shape the future of mental health care regulation in Ontario, and potentially nation-wide.
