A collage of photos from a conference, featuring speakers at podiums and groups of attendees, is overlaid with text promoting a travel fund for Global South scholars attending the IPSA 2027 World Congress in Rome.

She is expected to present her work internationally, build networks, and contribute to scholarly debates, yet the costs of registration, travel, accommodation, and visas are far beyond what her institution can support. She knows that conversations with colleagues working on similar questions in other parts of the world could strengthen her research and open new opportunities. But without financial support, attending the World Congress remains out of reach. Global South researchers miss out on important opportunities for professional growth and networking when they cannot attend conferences. However, there is a greater loss for disciplines that create platforms that are out of reach for researchers. Fresh, cutting-edge fieldwork by Global South scholars often struggles to reach global platforms. For many young scholars, the chance to meet face-to-face and learn from colleagues based in other parts of the world is rare. A missed voice on the panel is a missed presence at the decision-making table. Everyone loses. Sending a scholar to Rome is not just paying for five days in a conference hall. It is the foundation of everything that comes after. A paper presented on a panel becomes a journal article. A conversation over coffee becomes a co-authored book or a collaboration that spans three continents. A first Congress becomes a network of colleagues a scholar keeps for the rest of their career. Research that would otherwise stay locked inside one department begins to travel, get cited, and get built on. That is the real return on your gift, you are not buying a plane ticket, you are helping put new knowledge into the world and keeping it there long after the Congress closes. We are RC07, the Research Committee of the International Political Science Association that focuses on women and politics in the Global South. We are the only Research Committee that expressly addresses Global South politics. In July 2027, the World Congress meets in Rome. We are raising $10,000 USD so that we can support Global South researchers, who could never afford it on their own, to attend the Congress. At the last World Congress in Seoul in 2025, scholars from 95 countries came together and shared more than 3,000 papers. But look closer at who filled the room, of the ten biggest national delegations, eight were from wealthy countries. Only two were from the Global South. The barrier is not scholarly merit. It's about who can afford the registration, the visa, the airfare, the accommodation, and the time away from work. What your contribution could cover:

$50 USD covers about a third of the registration fee

$200 USD covers two nights in a shared room in Rome

$1,000 USD covers part of the cost of a long-haul flight out of a Global South country

Whatever you can give, it adds up to a seat on a plane and a place at the table for someone who earned it. If you can't give, send this to one person who can, or to someone who believes that where you were born shouldn't decide whether your research gets heard. That helps more than you'd think. Thank you for supporting broader participation in the IPSA World Congress. Your attention makes marginalized scholars more visible than ever. Invest in inclusion; your support will give Global South researchers wings, platform and networks.
