A young boy in a maroon shirt performs a side kick against a board held by an instructor in a martial arts studio filled with other students.

This fall, help our students turn a year of hard work into confidence, compassion, and community support at our annual Break-a-Thon. Students and instructors are encouraged to collect pledges, with a goal of $100 per student. All pledges will go to the Silent River Benevolent Foundation to support charities such as:

Northern Lights Wolf Sanctuary

SCARS

Each pledge carries a promise of at least 10 board breaks, completed during regular classes in the week of the Break-a-Thon. Parents, please come inside and watch! Your presence and encouragement are powerful motivators, and support from family makes this opportunity to showcase a year of effort even more meaningful. For children and adults alike, breaking a board with a fist can create a lasting sense of accomplishment. An unsuccessful attempt makes the eventual breakthrough that much more rewarding. We take the time to ensure every student—whether three years old or eighty-three—successfully completes ten board breaks, rather than leaving the kwoon feeling defeated. We also encourage students to talk with the people around them about our charities and the global issues they address. These conversations bring our community together and extend the impact beyond the dollars donated. Awareness is the first step toward empathy, and empathy helps us address the wrongs we see in the world. The Foundation’s broader work also includes our lion dance and dragon dance, alongside support for charities aligned with our intelligent curriculum. Support for the dances can help cover costs such as equipment, costumes, and supplies. Please make a pledge, cheer on a student, and help spread awareness.
