Hey folks, We're here to support a youth from our program in need. We believe in showing up for the people who constantly pour into our communities. Mamanar is an incredibly supportive artist and organizer who needs our collective help to navigate an unforgiving housing crisis that is actively pushing Black creatives to the margins. As a Black-led organization, we know this crisis is especially punishing for Black community members, who face systemic barriers and lack the generational safety nets needed to face these sudden financial storms. By contributing to this fund, you are offering direct mutual aid and pushing back against the systemic displacement of Black voices. Please join us in helping them secure safe housing. Here is a message she would like to share with you: "hello! my name is Mamanar, and i am the youth in need of support through this fundraiser. i am a recent graduate from uOttawa, as well as an artist and community organizer. I have been struggling since finishing my degree to find stable employment, and my current housing situation has been unstable since may. i need help with a few expenses to focus on my job and housing search, as well as getting mental health support. i am passionate about making creativity, dancing and joy accessible to everyone, particularly Black and queer youth. when i came across PBY & PTV in 2023, i went from being a music lover with silent dreams of working in music, to being a mainstay DJ in the city and developing music + events producer. I have facilitated DJ basics workshops, co-organized music, wellness and fundraising events, DJ'ed around the city for community events, grown as ballroom DJ, playing an instrumental role in promoting ballroom in Ottawa. I am grateful that recently, was selected to be a music mentor for community arts and social engagement at the city, and have also curated two editions of BOOTY SHAKING MUSIC, a party series that highlights Black dance, electronic and ballroom music in the club. most of this happening while still being a student. idk. you don't realize the struggle of being an artist until you are lacking the support of institutions and continue to do so even after you're 25. it's also hard to ask for help when you 1) have asked before, 2) are used to being the helper, and 3) there are other causes that need people's attention and resources. i am asking because i know what i have done and given to the community is valuable, and i know that should i get support to stabilize myself, i will continue this work and grow as an artist, organizer and leader. i am in a period of transition where i am stepping into myself as something other than a student, and in this time, that means relying on others to keep me going. what i am asking for is financial support. $2000 by October 1st to help cover:- one month of rent minus their personal contribution ($1 494)- hydro ($90)- wifi ($85)- transportation for one month ($138.5)- minimum payment on credit card ($192.5)" Thank you for helping a fellow community member!
