This number is staggeringly higher for single parent families (33%) and racialized groups (20.7%). Those experiencing food insecurity means they do not have adequate access to healthy, affordable food to meet their basic needs. Food insecurity does not exist because there is a lack of food. Food insecurity exists because there is a lack of affordable food. The rising cost of food, coupled with a lack of access to affordable arable growing spaces, means for many individuals and families, growing food is not an easy option. &nbsp; &nbsp; How is FED Equipped to Support this Need?&nbsp; Since 2013, FED Urban Agriculture Society has delivered thousands of modular growing kits and additional materials like soil, plants and educational materials to individuals and households experiencing food insecurity in the Greater Victoria Area. Through on and off-farm programming, FED has engaged thousands of youth, newcomers, and community members through workshops, tours, and hands-on engagements to inspire folks to grow food at home. From 2018-2026, FED Urban Agriculture has introduced 40,000 sq.ft of foos growing space on rooftops, school yards balconies, and other underutilized spaces to collaboratively grow and provide fresh food food and garden education. As we grow, so does our ability to cultivate a stronger network of local food infrastructure and local food champions that are meant to serve the community they&rsquo;re in. What Your Contribution Makes Possible: When we hit our $20K goal (and match it!), is the equivalent of: &nbsp; 1. Education-&nbsp;Provide hands-on educational opportunities for 500+ youth and newcomers through farm tours and workshops &nbsp; 2. Garden Creation- Support garden creation or expanding on current local garden projects through the purchase and maintenance of 500 grow bags, soil and plants.&nbsp; 3.
