The Village Holds Us: Support for James, Tshanna &amp; Family There are moments when community stops being just a word and becomes something living. Right now, the Alberta witchcraft and pagan community is rallying around one of our own. Many of you know James and Tshanna through Witchstock and through the wider work of Alberta Witches Association. James is one of the quiet logistical forces behind our gatherings &mdash; one of the people who helps build, haul, secure, troubleshoot, protect, and hold together the spaces that allow our community to safely gather each year. Alongside Shawn, Joshua, Andy, Merlin, Gary, and the rest of the crew, James has helped create the foundation that Witchstock stands upon. James and Tshanna were handfasted at Witchstock V, their union blessed on sacred land by Lady Mary Malinski of the Aquarian Tabernacle Church of Canada. Their children are deeply woven into this community as well, growing alongside the families and friendships that make up our village. This is not distant for us.This is family. Tshanna herself is also deeply woven into the heart of Alberta Witches Association as our Treasurer and as a long-standing member of this community. Many within our circles also know that Tshanna carries her own profound journey of grief and healing after the loss of her infant son, Ledger, in a tragic fire years ago. After finding a place where she was able to begin giving back to community again, she stepped forward into leadership within AWA with incredible strength, compassion, and dedication. She has become a powerful voice for healing through child loss, grief, resilience, and community care &mdash; quietly holding space for others even while carrying unimaginable loss herself. Now it is our turn to hold space for her. On May 12, James was involved in a devastating accident that resulted in a fractured spine and traumatic brain injury requiring emergency surgery.At this time, James remains in an induced coma while doctors work to reduce the swelling in his brain and give his body the best possible chance to heal. James has spent much of his life in service to others. He is both a firefighter and a military serviceman &mdash; someone who has dedicated himself to protecting, supporting, and showing up for his community time and time again. Those who know him know the kind of person he is: dependable, steady, compassionate, hardworking, and always willing to step forward when others need help. Now it is our turn to help carry this family through this impossible moment. While there is also a larger public GoFundMe circulating, Alberta Witches Association has opened this fundraiser through our Sponsor a Witch mutual aid initiative so our direct community can contribute through a trusted and familiar container of care.
