The story of Pedro is just one among many others.At only three weeks old, Pedro was found outside by a citizen who had seen him wandering for a few days. Upon his arrival at our Saint-Jean branch, we were surprised to see the worst case of eye infection we had ever encountered. Pus had created a rigid mask around his eyes, face, and even front paws. In addition to his infection, Pedro was infested with fleas. For his well-being, we attempted a double enucleation (eye removal) on the youngest animal ever done. Considering that his eyes were no longer viable and the infection was serious, it was the most effective solution to help him. Pedro quickly recovered from his surgery like a warrior. He was fortunate to be in a foster family with our veterinarian who had operated on him. Still small, Pedro needed to be bottle-fed while being treated for his wounds. Since he had probably never seen in his life, this new reality did not trouble him. However, to make his life easier, we found another orphaned kitten for him, who could keep him company and serve as a guide in his future family. Thus, C&eacute;line, another two-week-old female found wandering, was chosen to be his companion. Pedro is just one example among dozens of other animals who will need costly interventions in the coming weeks.
