Il a obtenu son baccalauréat en beaux-arts à l'Université du Wisconsin-Madison et sa maîtrise en beaux-arts à l'Université de l'Alberta, où il est actuellement chargé de cours en gravure et en dessin.

Joni "Snack Witch" Cheung et Luke Johnson croient aux fantômes : les personnes, les lieux, les objets et les récits qui nous hantent et qui perturbent notre compréhension du présent. Face à un climat culturel où les entreprises, les nations et les institutions dressent les individus et les collectifs les uns contre les autres sous le prétexte de la pénurie et de la survie, en quoi le fait de s'intéresser à ces fantômes du passé pourrait-il modifier nos perspectives sur l’avenir ?Dans cette série d'ateliers de co-création, Cheung et Johnson creusent les matériaux textuels des 50 dernières années à partir d'une exploration des archives de Latitude 53 et de trois galeries d'accueil dans différentes villes. Rejoignez-nous pour réimaginer l'histoire du mouvement des centres d'artistes et des nombreuses œuvres éphémères qu'ils ont accueillies, dont il ne reste que de brèves descriptions, des intentions d'artistes et des affiches.Ces ateliers créatifs se dérouleront à Edmonton, Calgary, Hamilton et Montréal—votre participation est la bienvenue. Les 50 années à venirÀ l’approche du 50e anniversaire de Latitude 53 en octobre 2023, nous réfléchissons à notre parcours et tentons d’imaginer « À quoi ressembleront les 50 années à venir ? » Pour entamer la réflexion, nous souhaitons réunir des artistes, des écrivain·es, des commissaires, des membres de la communauté et des jeunes afin d'explorer certaines problématiques émergentes qui touchent notre société actuelle.Nos six artistes principaux organiseront des événements en personne et en ligne pour faciliter la discussion, la création, la recherche et l'expérimentation. Nous invitons notre communauté à se joindre à leurs groupes de travail pour réfléchir à ces questions de futurité.🔮 Snack Witch Joni Cheung 🍡 est un·e invité·e reconnaissant·e, né·e - et sait qu'iel veut mourir - sur les territoires non cédés des peuples xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, Stó:lō, et Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh. Cheung travaille actuellement sur les terres volées des peuples Kanien'kehá:ka. Iel est une sorcière de sculpture certifiée détenant une maîtrise en beaux-arts de l'Université Concordia (2023). Une maligne #magicalgirl ✨ mangeant de l'art + faisant des collations, sa pratique interdisciplinaire étudie la relation entre les objets↔places↔identités, naviguant les discours du transnationalisme, de la migration et des diasporas, toujours avec humour et parfois avec de la nourriture. 😉Luke Johnson est un artiste originaire du Minnesota qui vit à Edmonton, en Alberta, sur le territoire du Traité n° 6.
