In 2023 we tried to highlight the Membership requirement that a non-profit society has to maintain. Membership funds can be used for a variety of society costs. Membership is essential and mandatory to a non-profit to maintain good status within the BC societies Registry. Being a registered non profit organization enables us to have a charity a number and issue charitable tax receipts. It enables us to apply for funding that groups that are not non-profit would not quality for. It gives the public the assurance that we follow acceptable and quality financial procedures and are accountable and have our books reviewed ever year by an accountant, as is a requirement of a non-profit society. We want to ask you to remember this when we ask for Membership. If you’ve never been a member because you are new to the island, or if you are someone who has let their membership lapse, we ask that you consider becoming a member of the Health Care Society for these reasons and so much more. Whether you use the Health Care Centre for your primary physician, nurse practitioner, dental or hygiene needs, laboratory facilities, to see a physiotherapist or chiropractor, visit the Public Health Nurse with your infant or child,  or arrive here as the result of an emergency call, your membership funds and donations make these services possible. The Health Care Centre is community funded. Government funds cover only salaries for the doctor and the nurse practitioner as well as some supplies in the Emergency Treatment Room. Everything else is provided through the efforts of fundraising by the Board of Directors.  Your participation is crucial and is appreciated by all the other residents and visitors to this island.  Be a community leader: support the Health Care Centre.
