South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition (SVIAC) is a small independent, non-profit angling advocacy society located in Victoria BC Our VisionFor the people of southern Vancouver Island to enjoy and benefit from a range of thriving year-round angling opportunities and healthy fish populations needed to sustain those fisheries now and for future generations. Our Mission- To advocate and lobby for healthy ecosystems and abundant populations of fish and invertebrates.- To promote thriving, sustainable tidal water and freshwater fisheries for the benefits and enjoyment of the public;- To encourage our government to maintain and expand access to Canada’s common property fishing resources, and thereby safeguarding angling opportunities for the benefits and enjoyment of the public; and- To educate government and the public about the economic, social, and cultural value of angling to society. Our efforts and initiatives are dedicated exclusively to ensure there will be abundant fish, healthy productive fish habitat and thriving public fisheries in our region for generations to come.  Your donation will be used to continue to support our annual Sooke Chinook Enhancement Initiative raising Chinook salmon for Orca food sustainability, where we annually transplant Chinook smolts reared in the Nitinat Hatchery into our Temporary Marine Enclosure in the Sooke Basin.  In April / May 2024, we released another 630,000 healthy smolts into the Sooke Basin, bringing our total smolts released to over 4.8 million in the 8 years of our program, that started in 2016. We have also commenced dialog with other South Vancouver Island communities to investigate the opportunity to apply our Chinook Enhancement Initiative successes to other locations in South Vancouver Island region.
