About the Event:Join the ASN&#39;s Executive Director, Jenn Newby, to discuss the first steps in your child&#39;s Autism journey. Quick start and tips for your newly diagnosed preschooler or grade school-age child.Where do you start?How can the Autism Support Network help you?The weeks and months after receiving a diagnosis for your child can be overwhelming. It is hard to know what to do first; conflicting information can make it difficult and confusing to get started with an effective intervention you feel good about.Jenn will share resources vetted by the Autism Support Network to help you develop a meaningful action plan. Meet Your Facilitator:Jenn is the mother of 2 autistic children. Her older child was diagnosed at age 3 in the US, and her younger one was diagnosed at age 5 in Canada. For the past decade, since Immigration, Jenn has been focused on Individualized, evidence-based therapies for both of her kids in both public and independent schooling. Her advocacy background includes meeting with MLAs, organizing protests, letter-writing campaigns, public speaking, media and social media, and experience with the BC Human Rights Tribunal. Jenn is one of the founding co-creators of BCEdAccess&#39; Exclusion Tracker, which is for parents to report when their disabled children are denied an equitable education, and one of the founding co-creators of the Parents &amp; Professionals Plan, which is advocating at the Provincial level to expand and reform the Individualized Funding program for disabled youth. She is particularly passionate about the different legal protections and services between the two countries and the implications for the long-term prospects of Canadian children. Her current focus is parents with newly-diagnosed children, and has made it a personal goal to &quot;meet these parents where they are at&quot;, connect and educate them on their rights.

She designs comprehensive Applied Behaviour Analytic (ABA) programs for people diagnosed with autism in the home and community settings while prioritizing the safety, dignity, rapport and televisibility of her clients. Julee has worked with students ranging from 21 months to 27 years old in all areas of the autism spectrum. She taught the Principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis course at Surrey College from 2012 to 2022 and presented multiple workshops in areas such as co-regulation, autism assessment, and principles of behaviour throughout BC. In 2021, Julee made the decision to go back to school and get her teaching certificate. She is now also a Learning Services Helping Teacher with SD42 (Maple Ridge&ndash;Pitt Meadows). Fay Yen,&nbsp;MSc., BCBA&nbsp;(She/Her) (CO-FACILITATOR FOR THIS WORKSHOP!)I entered the field of ABA as a behaviour interventionist working with autistic children in 2002. In 2013, I obtained a Master&rsquo;s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) from St. Cloud State University and became a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). Currently., I am a Category A Registered Autism Service Provider (RASP) of British Columbia, Canada. As a behaviour consultant, I provide behaviour intervention services to families using home-based early interventions. In the home-based ABA intervention, parents are managers of the service provider team, and my job is to customize individualized learning plans for the child, train the behaviour interventionists and support the caregivers through this journey. I also host the ABA TO GO Podcast and YouTube channel to share ABA knowledge and strategies with caregivers and teachers. I believe that by including service providers and caregivers, we can help our children reach their highest potential. I would love to share with everyone how we can teach effectively in a fun and motivating environment from a place of caring. Ting Lin, BCaBA (She/Her) (CO-FACILITATOR FOR THIS WORKSHOP!)I am a Board Certified Assistant Behaviour Analyst (BCaBA) with over 20 years of experience in the field of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). I have worked as a behaviour interventionist, education assistant, and junior behaviour consultant, and as a BCaBA, I currently provide consultation and direct therapy to children aged 2 to 15 with a range of developmental and learning needs, including autism and ADHD, using ABA principles to individualize teaching and build meaningful skills. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of British Columbia and my Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis at Capilano University. I specialize in early behaviour intervention, including teaching communication, social play, emotional regulation, self-help, academic skills, and executive functioning skills. I am also a mother to 12- and 14-year-olds, who continually offer me meaningful opportunities to grow as a behaviour change educator. When interacting with children, I have a silly sense of humour, thanks to my very first client in 2005, who taught me that the best way to learn is to have fun doing it. My passion for and desire to educate others about ABA continue to grow as I see the successes of using evidence-based methods in teaching our clients and those who care and work with them. Leanne Schiedel, M.Sc., BCBALeanne is a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst who has worked in the field of ABA since 2004. She has experience working and collaborating with families and school teams to develop home and school-based supports for individuals with autism, ranging in age from 2 to 18 years old. Leanne has collaborated with various organizations throughout the province to provide workshops, presentations, and training about ABA and the use of its strategies in settings ranging from homes and schools to workplace environments. Leanne holds a Master of Science in Applied Behaviour Analysis from St. Cloud State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Lindsay Parrott, MEd., BCBA&nbsp;Lindsay Parrott is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and holds a Master of Education in Special Education with a focus on Autism and Developmental Disabilities from the University of British Columbia (UBC). She designs comprehensive applied behaviour analytic (ABA) programs for individuals diagnosed with autism in the home, school and community settings. Lindsay has worked in the field for the last 18 years with students aged 20 months to 23 years old. She presented two poster presentations at the annual conferences for the British Columbia Association for Behaviour Analysis in 2011 and 2012, and she presented parent information and ABA information workshops through the Autism Support Network in 2013 and 2014. She has also collaborated with the Coquitlam School District to create a pilot presentation for EA training in the principles of ABA in the school setting in 2018 and presented a Behaviour Support Basics workshop to the community through Chilliwack Community Services in 2021. She has presented on ABA and Behaviour Intervention throughout the province through AutismBC from 2012 to 2022, and now does the same in association with the Autism Support Network.

Behaviour Interventionist Basic Training Workshop (JULY)

Please join us for our &quot;Circle of Support.&quot; Ask, share, and connect with others to build a strong community of support. Caregivers from all areas are welcome to attend this solution-oriented support meeting. Meet other parents who have autistic children, discuss your pressing issues, and find community and support. The focus of this meeting will be on supporting parents and providing them with information about autism treatment, starting and running a home-based ABA program, and addressing any other questions you may have. This meeting is facilitated by Elaine Wadell, the ASN&rsquo;s Education Coordinator. Elaine was a founding board member of the Autism Support Network and has been an active member of the Autism community since her oldest son was diagnosed in 2005. She is a parent to three young adult boys, an entrepreneur, and an advocate who believes in equitable access to education and treatment throughout a person&#39;s lifetime, regardless of socioeconomic and cultural factors. She is an experienced parent who has navigated the processes of diagnosis, setting up an ABA program, working with the school system, homeschooling, interacting with MCFD, and adult transition with CLBC. She is committed to helping families find support and navigate through difficulties at any point in their child&rsquo;s development. Her 4 years old was also diagnosed with ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), and both have since been diagnosed with ADHD. Since their diagnoses, she&rsquo;s been deeply involved in their therapy journeys, including ABA, and understands the joys and challenges of raising neurodiverse children.With over 10 years in early childhood education, a finance background, and fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, she brings a diverse perspective to her role as a Parent Information Agent. She&rsquo;s passionate about providing families with culturally sensitive resources and guidance.

I have worked as a behaviour interventionist, education assistant, and junior behaviour consultant, and as a BCaBA, I currently provide consultation and direct therapy to children aged 2 to 15 with a range of developmental and learning needs, including autism and ADHD, using ABA principles to individualize teaching and build meaningful skills. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of British Columbia and my Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Applied Behaviour Analysis at Capilano University. I specialize in early behaviour intervention, including teaching communication, social play, emotional regulation, self-help, academic skills, and executive functioning skills. I am also a mother to 12- and 14-year-olds, who continually offer me meaningful opportunities to grow as a behaviour change educator. When interacting with children, I have a silly sense of humour, thanks to my very first client in 2005, who taught me that the best way to learn is to have fun doing it. Julee has worked with students ranging from 21 months to 27 years old in all areas of the autism spectrum. She taught the Principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis course at Surrey College from 2012 to 2022 and presented multiple workshops in areas such as co-regulation, autism assessment, and principles of behaviour throughout BC. In 2021, Julee made the decision to go back to school and get her teaching certificate. She is now also a Learning Services Helping Teacher with SD42 (Maple Ridge&ndash;Pitt Meadows). Fay Yen,&nbsp;MSc., BCBA&nbsp;(She/Her)&nbsp;I entered the field of ABA as a behaviour interventionist working with autistic children in 2002. In 2013, I obtained a Master&rsquo;s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) from St. Cloud State University and became a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). Currently., I am a Category A Registered Autism Service Provider (RASP) of British Columbia, Canada. As a behaviour consultant, I provide behaviour intervention services to families using home-based early interventions. In the home-based ABA intervention, parents are managers of the service provider team, and my job is to customize individualized learning plans for the child, train the behaviour interventionists and support the caregivers through this journey. I also host the ABA TO GO Podcast and YouTube channel to share ABA knowledge and strategies with caregivers and teachers. I believe that by including service providers and caregivers, we can help our children reach their highest potential. I would love to share with everyone how we can teach effectively in a fun and motivating environment from a place of caring. Lindsay Parrott, MEd., BCBA&nbsp;Lindsay Parrott is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and holds a Master of Education in Special Education with a focus on Autism and Developmental Disabilities from the University of British Columbia (UBC). She designs comprehensive applied behaviour analytic (ABA) programs for individuals diagnosed with autism in the home, school and community settings. Lindsay has worked in the field for the last 18 years with students aged 20 months to 23 years old. She presented two poster presentations at the annual conferences for the British Columbia Association for Behaviour Analysis in 2011 and 2012, and she presented parent information and ABA information workshops through the Autism Support Network in 2013 and 2014. She has also collaborated with the Coquitlam School District to create a pilot presentation for EA training in the principles of ABA in the school setting in 2018 and presented a Behaviour Support Basics workshop to the community through Chilliwack Community Services in 2021. She has presented on ABA and Behaviour Intervention throughout the province through AutismBC from 2012 to 2022, and now does the same in association with the Autism Support Network.

Richmond Autism Support Meeting (August)

Learn how the Disability Tax Credit and RDSP can better support your child and family.The ASN, in collaboration with the Disability Alliance of BC, seeks to support families by giving trusted information and guidance through the upcoming transition to the new system for autism supports and services. Though it was important before, obtaining the DTC is critical moving forward. Description: This presentation will guide families through navigating the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) for children, with a specific focus on the transition to the new Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) framework. We will explore how these new changes shift from diagnosis-specific programs toward expanded community services and functional, income-tailored direct benefits. Additionally, the session will briefly cover the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and the Canada Disability Benefit. Presenter: Ophelia RoswellOphelia is a Community Advocate with Disability Alliance BC, where she assists individuals and families in accessing the Disability Tax Credit and associated provincial and federal benefits. She designs comprehensive Applied Behaviour Analytic (ABA) programs for people diagnosed with autism in the home and community settings while prioritizing the safety, dignity, rapport and televisibility of her clients. Julee has worked with students ranging from 21 months to 27 years old in all areas of the autism spectrum. She taught the Principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis course at Surrey College from 2012 to 2022 and presented multiple workshops in areas such as co-regulation, autism assessment, and principles of behaviour throughout BC. In 2021, Julee made the decision to go back to school and get her teaching certificate. She is now also a Learning Services Helping Teacher with SD42 (Maple Ridge&ndash;Pitt Meadows). Fay Yen,&nbsp;MSc., BCBA&nbsp;(She/Her)&nbsp;I entered the field of ABA as a behaviour interventionist working with autistic children in 2002. In 2013, I obtained a Master&rsquo;s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) from St. Cloud State University and became a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). Currently., I am a Category A Registered Autism Service Provider (RASP) of British Columbia, Canada. As a behaviour consultant, I provide behaviour intervention services to families using home-based early interventions. In the home-based ABA intervention, parents are managers of the service provider team, and my job is to customize individualized learning plans for the child, train the behaviour interventionists and support the caregivers through this journey. I also host the ABA TO GO Podcast and YouTube channel to share ABA knowledge and strategies with caregivers and teachers. I believe that by including service providers and caregivers, we can help our children reach their highest potential. I would love to share with everyone how we can teach effectively in a fun and motivating environment from a place of caring. Leanne Schiedel, M.Sc., BCBA (FACILITATOR FOR THIS WORKSHOP!)Leanne is a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst who has worked in the field of ABA since 2004. She has experience working and collaborating with families and school teams to develop home and school-based supports for individuals with autism, ranging in age from 2 to 18 years old. Leanne has collaborated with various organizations throughout the province to provide workshops, presentations, and training about ABA and the use of its strategies in settings ranging from homes and schools to workplace environments. Leanne holds a Master of Science in Applied Behaviour Analysis from St. Cloud State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Lindsay Parrott, MEd., BCBALindsay Parrott is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and holds a Master of Education in Special Education with a focus on Autism and Developmental Disabilities from the University of British Columbia (UBC). She designs comprehensive applied behaviour analytic (ABA) programs for individuals diagnosed with autism in the home, school and community settings. Lindsay has worked in the field for the last 18 years with students aged 20 months to 23 years old. She presented two poster presentations at the annual conferences for the British Columbia Association for Behaviour Analysis in 2011 and 2012, and she presented parent information and ABA information workshops through the Autism Support Network in 2013 and 2014. She has also collaborated with the Coquitlam School District to create a pilot presentation for EA training in the principles of ABA in the school setting in 2018 and presented a Behaviour Support Basics workshop to the community through Chilliwack Community Services in 2021. She has presented on ABA and Behaviour Intervention throughout the province through AutismBC from 2012 to 2022, and now does the same in association with the Autism Support Network.
