LXCL:Learn how to fix your bike and explore the city by bike. Buy a refurbished bike, meet friends, and help us advocate for a vibrant city. Whether you ride once a week, 265 bike-friendly days a year, or year-round, Bike Edmonton gives you the tools to enjoy cycling. Established as a non-profit society in 1980, we operate a volunteer-run community bike workshop, provide training, &amp; host events with community partners. An Edmonton where anyone can choose to cycle is a better city for all.

In this hands-on workshop, our most popular class, you will gain confidence and save money by doing simple repairs yourself as well as preventing expensive parts from wearing out. Bring your bicycle so you can learn techniques specific to your components. If you&#39;re unable to bring your bike the instructor can try to find a similar bike in the shop. This is a great place to start if you have little or no experience working on bikes, and will cover:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">drivetrain cleaning and lubrication,</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">flat tire repair,</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">basic brake and gearing adjustments, and</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">how to spot small problems before they become big problems.</li></ul>Registration is required. Bike Repair 101: Hands-on Intro to Bike Maintenance, August 1st

Do you struggle with getting into the right gear or with a chain that falls off? This course will get you started on how to diagnose the problem, find the right replacement parts, and adjust your derailleurs for easy shifting. In this hands-on class we&#39;ll review the tools and techniques needed to install, align, and maintain common derailleurs, hangers, derailleur cables and housing. You&#39;ll learn about selecting a derailleur that works well with the rest of the drivetrain components. You&#39;ll get hands-on experience in troubleshooting problems, learning preventative maintenance, and when or when not to adjust limit screws. Bring your own bike to treat it to a shifting tune-up and a new set of cables and housing, or work on one of Bike Edmonton&rsquo;s bikes. This is an intermediate course. You don&#39;t need to be an expert with tools to get the most from this class, but you should have enough experience to know how to use common bike tools. We recommend you take Bike Repair 101 beforehand, though it&#39;s not necessary to get the most out of this workshop.

Learn to repair a flat tire and turn the most common ride-ending mishap into no problem at all! This clinic invites women and people of other genders who have not traditionally been a dominant part of bike repair spaces to use our workshop to learn a fundamental repair skill. In this casual evening facilitated by volunteers who are women or gender variant, you&#39;ll get to practice:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">how to remove &amp; reinstall your bike&#39;s wheels</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">how to find leaks and&nbsp;patch a tube</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">how to remove &amp; reinstall a bicycle tire, and how to inspect a tire for damage</li></ul>The repair evening runs from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and you are welcome to use any of that time to learn to fix a flat. Pre-registration is required but there is no fixed time you need to be there to start. If it&#39;s your first time, plan on taking about an hour to get comfortable removing &amp; reinstalling your wheels, patching a tube, and installing a tire on the wheel.
