Capital Chamber Choir Corporation

LXCL: The Capital Chamber Choir (CCC) is an auditioned ensemble of experienced choral singers from the National Capital Region. The choir and Artistic Director, Jamie Loback, are committed to bringing a diverse range of choral music—in particular, modern, Canadian, and local works—to audiences through high-calibre and engaging performances.

Join Capital Chamber Choir for “Talbot's Path of Miracles,” a powerful journey in sound tracing the historic Camino de Santiago. A pilgrimage in composition, Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles is a journey, as the four movement titles (Roncesvalles, Burgos, León and Santiago) are the four main posts along the Camino de Santiago, one of the most taxing pilgrimage routes in the Roman Catholic tradition. Written for the exceptional choral ensemble Tenebrae, this is an hour-long a cappella exploration of the phenomenon of the Camino de Santiago — the ancient Catholic pilgrimage route across northern Spain to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The text comprises excerpts from historical and sacred documents in several different languages, alongside original material by poet Robert Dickinson. We're proud to offer a Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC) for this concert.🎵✨

CCC's send-off concert: From Capital To Coast

CCC presents Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara's "All-night Vigil": Vigilia: Vespers & Matins by candlelight! This concert will explore the work as a stand alone piece that includes a rich basso profundi solo, soloists, and full choir performing a variety of textures and techniques, all sung in the Finnish language. Guests will enjoy this reflective performance surrounded by hundreds of candles! Fans of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil (Vespers) will surely love to see this performance live! "As his inspiration, Rautavaara has himself described a visit to the Valamo monastery in the middle of Lake Ladoga in 1939: ‘The bells began to ring, low-pitched booms and higher, shrill clinks: the world was filled with sounds and colors…’ The music is marked by dark colors, the heady smell of incense and the crepuscular church lit only by small candles. Divided into two parts, Vespers and Matins, the 70-minute work consists of 34 sections, and features prominent parts for a bass and a tenor soloist, as well as a number of solo voices emerging from the mixed choir. The work is enriched by the constantly changing combinations of choir and soloists, the perspective shifting from the personal to the universal." - prestomusic.com

CCC Fundraiser concert: To Love & Cherish

We love a double-bill in candlelight! CCC is thrilled to be bringing back the gorgeous candlelight atmosphere to our audiences this season with our third performance ever of the Frank Martin "Mass For Double Choir". It's a favourite with the first performance in 2018, 2021, and now 2026. The concert will also feature the hauntingly beautiful Vespers by American-Canadian (of Ukrainian descent) composer Roman Hurko. "Vespers" had its Ottawa premiere in April 2013, performed by the Ewashko Singers at St. Joe's. Hurko's "Vespers" will be sung in Ukrainianized Slavonic. "Martin’s Mass is notable for its flowing rhythmic and melodic vitality – always at the service of the words – and the juxtaposition of austere, restrained music, often based around a pedal note, with rich harmonic writing of considerable passion and great beauty. Although there are no actual plainsong themes in the work, the influence of Gregorian plainsong is never far away, not least at the very opening where a simple, flowing alto line gradually unfolds, soon to be taken up by the sopranos and then supported by the full choirs." - Author: John Bawden🕯️
