Anna Lucas is a fibre artist with a passion for transforming natural inspiration into textured, tactile works of art. Drawing from the rugged beauty and ever-changing scenery of Newfoundland and Labrador, Anna&rsquo;s work reflects a deep appreciation for coastal landscapes and the colours and movement found in nature. Through her creative practice, Anna enjoys exploring the versatility of fibre, particularly the art of felting, and sharing that experience with others in a relaxed and welcoming environment. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to dry felting techniques while creating their own Coastal NL landscape. Using wool fibre, they will learn how to represent elements such as water, sky and clouds, and vegetation&mdash;building a soft, layered scene inspired by the natural surroundings of the province.

Leslie Sasaki is an accomplished artist and art educator with more than 35 years of teaching experience in the visual arts. Throughout his career, he has taught courses in Foundation Studies, Colour Theory, Painting, Drawing, and 2D Design at several Canadian universities and institutions, including Memorial University of Newfoundland and Sheridan College. With a deep understanding of colour relationships and visual composition, Leslie brings both technical expertise and a highly engaging teaching style to his workshops. He is passionate about helping artists and makers better understand how colour choices can dramatically influence the impact and emotion of their work. In this workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of colour theory through demonstrations and interactive group activities. Topics will include basic colour terminology, harmonies, and contrasts, while participants experiment with &ldquo;cut and paste&rdquo; colour paper sketches to better understand subtle colour relationships. Quilters will leave with practical strategies for enhancing the visual impact of their quilts and creative projects

Colour Theory

Debbie Briffett Waye brings over 40 years of experience in traditional craftsmanship, having first learned to sew beaded moccasins while living and working in Labrador. What began as a practical skill quickly became a passion&mdash;especially the intricate art of beading, which Debby describes as the &ldquo;best part&rdquo; of moccasin making. Today, Debby is excited to share this meaningful and creative tradition with others. Through her business, Mostly Moccasins, she continues to create beautiful beaded work and connect with those interested in learning the craft. Participants can also find Debby as a vendor at the 2026 Clarenville Regional Fibre Festival and explore her work on Facebook. In this workshop, participants will learn the beading techniques Debby was taught in Labrador. Students will hand stitch a design onto Melton cloth using glass seed and bugle beads, beading thread, and a combination of sewing and beading needles. Each participant will complete a finished piece mounted in a small frame to take home.

Shona Stacey is a textile artist and educator from Newfoundland who creates original hooked rugs, felted landscapes, and mixed media fibre art from her seaside studio. Deeply inspired by the province&rsquo;s natural beauty and cultural heritage, Shona&rsquo;s work reflects the spirit of strong coastal winds, salty ocean air, and the resilience of generations of islanders. With a passion for preserving traditional arts and crafts while exploring contemporary fibre techniques, Shona enjoys sharing her knowledge and encouraging others to discover the creativity and connection found in working with wool and sustainable fibres. In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will learn how to &ldquo;paint&rdquo; with wool using needle felting techniques to create a textured 2D landscape. Inspired by scenes such as seascapes, sunsets, and mountains, participants will explore blending colours, layering fibres, and creating depth using wool roving and simple felting tools. Each participant will leave with a finished piece ready to frame and display.

Dianne Hodder is a passionate rug hooker, certified Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador teacher, and juried member of the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. Originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, Dianne spent her working years on mainland Canada as a computer systems analyst before returning home following retirement. Dianne was first introduced to the art of rug hooking while living in Ottawa, where she quickly developed a deep appreciation for the craft and its creative possibilities. Since returning to Newfoundland and Labrador, she has become an avid rug hooker and dedicated instructor, enjoying the opportunity to share both traditional techniques and the joy of the craft with others. In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of rug hooking and everything the craft entails. Topics will include the tools and materials required&mdash;such as hooks, frames, backing, and hooking fibres&mdash;as well as hands-on experience hooking an actual pattern. Participants will also learn finishing techniques and how to properly care for completed rugs.

Intro Rug Hooking

Paula Flood is a Newfoundland fibre artist whose family roots trace back to Woody Island, Placentia Bay, in 1773. Deeply inspired by the culture, history, and landscapes of the province, Paula&rsquo;s work reflects a love of colour, warmth, texture, and tradition. Currently residing on Change Islands, Paula creates handcrafted textile art including original wall hangings, ornaments, quilts, knitted and crocheted pieces, and hand-spun yarn. Her work blends traditional techniques with artistic expression, celebrating both heritage and creativity. In this workshop, participants will explore the traditional herringbone stitch, an ancient embroidery and quilting technique recognized for its distinctive pattern resembling the backbone of a herring fish. Over centuries, the stitch has evolved from a practical method of reinforcing seams into a beautiful decorative element used in textile arts around the world. Participants will learn the basics of this versatile technique while creating their own stitched design.

Inspired by the natural beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador, her work often reflects the landscapes and simple joys found in everyday surroundings. Anna enjoys sharing her creative process with others, creating a welcoming and hands-on environment where participants can experiment, learn, and express their own artistic style. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the art of weaving by creating a sampler inspired by a garden plot. Through this project, they will explore different weaving techniques, textures, and colour combinations&mdash;resulting in a unique, nature-inspired piece that reflects their own creativity.

Marilyn Lambert is a retired health care worker now living in Hatchet Cove. She has always had a passion for creating, and when she was introduced to Paverpol, she immediately knew it was an art form she would love. Six years ago, Marilyn became a Certified Paverpol Instructor and has enjoyed sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for this unique medium with others. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is seeing the creativity and individuality that each participant brings to their own Paverpol creation.

Dying Wool Workshop 🎨🧶 Explore the art of dyeing wool through colour, texture, and creativity. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn practical wool dyeing techniques and leave with their own beautifully hand-dyed skeins to take home. Additional skeins of wool will be available for purchase during the workshop for $20 each, allowing participants to experiment with even more colours and techniques.

Tanya Blackmore is passionate about helping people reconnect with movement, relaxation, and overall well-being through gentle and accessible yoga practices. With a calming and supportive approach, Tanya creates welcoming spaces where participants of all experience levels can slow down, stretch, and recharge both physically and mentally. Understanding the repetitive strain and tension that can come from hours spent knitting, crocheting, quilting, and creating, Tanya has designed this session specifically with makers in mind. In this workshop, participants will enjoy a gentle chair yoga session focused on releasing tension in the hands, shoulders, neck, and back while improving posture, flexibility, and relaxation. Perfect for knitters, crocheters, and fibre artists, this session offers an opportunity to refresh the body and mind before returning to creative projects with greater comfort and ease.

Nicole is an artist and art teacher from Ontario and currently serves as the Visual Arts Teacher at Clarenville High School. While her artistic background originally focused on two-dimensional art forms such as painting and relief printing, her creative journey has recently expanded into the world of fibre arts through experimenting with printmaking on fabric and embroidery as a form of &ldquo;painting&rdquo; with fibres. This exploration sparked a passion for hand-weaving, embroidery, natural dyes, and crochet. As a fibre artist still discovering and learning herself, Nicole brings an approachable and encouraging perspective to teaching. In this beginner-friendly Introduction to Weaving workshop, participants will explore the basics of hand-weaving while creating their own woven bag project. Stitch a little local colour. In this Funky Robin 3D Embroidery workshop 🎨🧵, you&rsquo;ll learn layered stitching techniques to bring a bold, textured robin to life. Guided by a local artist, Maxine Brake, you&rsquo;ll explore design, colour, and simple 3D methods that are beginner-friendly yet rewarding for experienced makers. Your registration helps the Clarenville Regional Arts Association support more workshops, exhibitions, and creative opportunities in our community.

Funky Robin 3D Embroidery

S&iacute;le (she-la) is an accomplished knitter and former Irish dancer who has found a creative way to blend both passions into her work. After a back injury brought her dancing days to a close, she turned her focus to knitting&mdash;channeling the rhythm, movement, and structure of dance into the flowing patterns of her designs. Living on the not-so-tropical island of Newfoundland, S&iacute;le creates warm, woolly, and often beautifully cabled handknits that are as practical as they are artistic. She has self-published a number of knitting patterns on her blog, Knit Dance Repeat, as well as on LoveCrafts, and connects with the fibre community on Instagram and Discord as knit1dance2. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the art of cable knitting. Designed for knitters who are already comfortable working in the round on circular needles, this session will guide participants through the techniques needed to create a stylish and cozy cowl&mdash;perfect for anyone from teens to seniors.

Jennifer Kaye, along with fellow fibre artists Anne Alexandre and Wannetta Osmond, shares a passion for creativity and making beautiful things by hand. With a love for fun, fashion, and fibre arts, the trio enjoys exploring new projects and bringing a touch of creativity to special occasions. Last year, they crafted their own fascinators to wear to the High Tea&mdash;and had so much fun that they&rsquo;re excited to share the experience with others! Their goal is to create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere where participants can express their style and creativity. This workshop is all about having fun and getting ready for the High Tea in style. Participants will create their own unique fascinator to wear for the event (or any fancy occasion!), leaving with a one-of-a-kind accessory and a memorable experience.

Doreen Locke is a passionate quilter with a love for sharing her craft and inspiring others to create. With hands-on teaching experience, she has successfully guided groups of quilters through the process of making beautiful jelly roll rugs during quilting retreats, helping participants build both skills and confidence in their sewing. Doreen&rsquo;s approach is practical, supportive, and beginner-friendly, making her workshops welcoming for all skill levels. She focuses on teaching clear techniques that participants can continue to build on long after the session ends. In this workshop, participants will learn how to transform jelly roll strips into sewn tubes and craft them into a finished placemat&mdash;while gaining the foundational skills needed to create a full jelly roll rug at home.

Sarah Norman brings over 25 years of experience working with glass, having first learned her craft in Brampton, Ontario, and continuing to refine her skills through various studios across the Greater Toronto Area. Her passion for stained glass is rooted not only in its beauty, but in the calming and therapeutic process it offers. For Sarah, working with glass is a mindful practice&mdash;an opportunity to focus, breathe, and create something meaningful with both heart and hands. She enjoys sharing this experience with others and helping participants discover the joy of creating their own pieces. In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will receive step-by-step instruction on the stained-glass process, including how to cut, break, grind, foil, and solder their own design. By the end of the session, each participant will have a finished piece and a strong foundation in the art of stained glass. Sharon Penney, of Ocean View Textiles, discovered her love of textiles at a young age, inspired by family traditions that sparked a lifelong passion for fibre arts. Today, she creates a variety of handcrafted pieces including framed rug hookings, ornaments, coasters, and more&mdash;using wool, yarn, and burlap to bring each design to life. Sharon is deeply inspired by the beauty and heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador, and she is passionate about preserving these memories through her work. Whether through her rug hooking kits or hands-on classes, she enjoys sharing both the craft and the stories behind it. For Sharon, every loop pulled is a moment of peace, creativity, and connection. In this workshop, participants will create a charming Puffin Trigger Mitt Ornament using traditional rug hooking techniques. Each participant will receive a complete kit, including a rug hoop, pre-designed burlap, wool, twine, felt backing, instructions, and a rug hook&mdash;everything needed to complete the project and continue the craft at home.

Deeply inspired by the beauty and movement of the ocean, Deidra&rsquo;s creations reflect the tranquil blues, flowing textures, and natural elegance of coastal living. Her work captures the spirit of the sea through layered resin designs that evoke both serenity and wonder. In this beginner-friendly Sun Catcher Resin Workshop, participants will explore the creative possibilities of UV resin while designing their own ocean-inspired whale sun catcher. Deidra will guide participants through basic resin techniques, colour blending, and decorative elements to create a unique piece that beautifully catches and reflects light.
