CA Coastal Network Field Tour
On Friday, October 16, 2026, join Conservation Ontario and your CA colleagues for a tour along a portion of Lake Huron's coastline. Co-hosted by Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, this tour will showcase: - A Sediment Bypass Restoration Site: By boat, the group will soon explore the proposed sand nourishment site south of Goderich harbour. The tour will highlight the planned construction of an artificial reef (rock shoal), a nature-based solution designed to retain nearshore sand, enhance habitat, and help buffer the bluffs from erosion.- Case Study Areas: examine current shoreline management outcomes that will help guide the development of climate-resilient policies tailored to the unique challenges of the Lake Huron coast and establish a toolkit for municipalities with best practices for asset relocation (managed retreat). The tour will depart from the Goderich Branch, Huron County Library (52 Montreal St, Goderich, ON N7A 2G4). Registration is ongoing from Wednesday, September 23 and will close on Friday, October 2. Registration capacity will be limited, with an initial intake of one staff member per CA. A waitlist will be created for additional interested staff. To be added, please email Katie Franken directly at kfranken@conservationontario.ca.
