Chaque dernier dimanche du mois, Book &amp; Brunch rassemble lectrices et lecteurs &agrave; Montr&eacute;al pour d&eacute;couvrir des &oelig;uvres d&rsquo;autrices et auteurs noirs. De bonnes conversations, de la bonne cuisine, de la bonne compagnie. Lecture du mois : Le Marabout d&#39;Ayavi Lake Un quartier. Mille mondes. Un peu de magie.Le Marabout plonge dans Parc-Extension, ce coin de Montr&eacute;al o&ugrave; les cultures se fr&ocirc;lent, s&#39;agglutinent et parfois s&#39;embrouillent. Un marabout. Une chamane Atikamekw. This month&#39;s read: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi Two half-sisters. One castle. Worlds apart.Homegoing follows the descendants of Effia and Esi, two half-sisters born in 18th-century Ghana. While Effia marries a British colonial officer and lives in the upper chambers of Cape Coast Castle, Esi is imprisoned in its very dungeons and sold into slavery in America. &nbsp;From that single rupture, three centuries unfold across eight generations, from Ghana&#39;s shores to Mississippi&#39;s plantations, from the American Civil War to Jazz Age Harlem.Recurring themes of family, identity, and belonging run through the novel, tracing the effects of disrupted bloodlines and the relentless human quest to understand our roots.At once intimate and sweeping, Homegoing is a novel that asks: what do we carry from those who came before us, and what do we pass on?
