Green Action Centre promotes sustainable living through education and advocacy, focusing on climate action, transportation solutions, and community engagement to create healthier, more equitable environments for all Manitobans.

The Manitoba Climate Convergence&nbsp;is a 1.5-day,&nbsp;invite-only gathering that will bring together organizations and community leaders working on climate policy, advocacy, and campaigning across the province. This event will take place October 7-8, 2025, at The Leaf in Assiniboine Park, Winnipeg. The gathering is designed to strengthen relationships within Manitoba&rsquo;s climate movement, identify opportunities for coordination and strategic alignment, and foster meaningful discussions that advance our collective work. Over the course of the event, participants will engage in a combination of breakout sessions, plenaries, and workshops aimed at supporting collaboration and deepening connections. The forum will open on the afternoon of October 7 (12-5pm) and continue for a full day on October 8 (9am-4pm). Each organization is invited to send up to two representatives to take part in this important conversation. At a time when the climate movement faces significant challenges and increasing pressure, this gathering offers a critical opportunity to unite our efforts and work together toward impactful climate action in Manitoba. Changing Lanes: Better Value from Winnipeg Transportation Investmentswith Todd Litman of the Victoria Transportation Policy Institute North American cities are trapped in a wasteful cycle: more driving, reduced travel options and pressure to build and maintain ever-more costly infrastructure. Cities need better solutions to traffic problems. Roadway expansions are expensive, and typically provide only temporary relief until added traffic fills the new capacity.&nbsp; There are &ldquo;win-win&rdquo; solutions that reduce congestion while also advancing other community goals including affordability, pollution reduction, trade diversification, equity, public health and safety. Applying these solutions requires a shift to accessibility-based planning that recognizes the many benefits provided by multimodal planning and compact neighbourhoods.&nbsp; In this keynote address, Todd Litman will share important insights from his latest work: Smart Congestion Relief, Affordability as a Transportation Planning Goal and The Mobility-Productivity Paradox. His research provides practical guidance for making infrastructure investments more cost-effective, improving affordability and fairness, and creating more inclusive, livable communities.
