Our mission
Once the childhood home of acclaimed author Joy Kogawa, Historic Joy Kogawa House provides a space for artists to create works and engage the community through education and dialogue. Your donation brings creativity and collaboration to life.
The house is located in South Vancouver BC, on the north arm of the Fraser River, unceded territories of the Musqueam and other Coast Salish peoples, we respect the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of our provincial fabric.

Historic Joy Kogawa House is a place to write and share stories that reveal history with its legacies of prejudice, resilience, and courage -- located on unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam PeopleHistoric Joy Kogawa House is a non-profit organization under the BC’s Society Act, with Registered Charity No. 84169 9218 RR0001. Donations from the community remain vital and are used to fund:public events at the house that grow the appreciation of literature,house tours to build public understanding of the internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War and its ongoing relevance,author residencies, which further the practice of outstanding Canadian writers and connect them with the local community,the upkeep and preservation of this unique facility of historic and cultural significance.
