Indian Classical Music Society Of Vancouver

The Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver promotes and celebrates Indian classical music and dance, fostering community engagement and supporting artists through performances and educational initiatives, enriching cultural diversity in Vancouver.

Sahabhāva is a Sanskrit word for coexistence, community, and coming together. The evening opens with an Odissi recital by Sudhesna Mohapatra, followed by an exploration of Hindustānī rāgas featuring young vocalist Saanjh Jaura, accompanied by Sunny Matharu (tabla) and&nbsp;Mohan Bhide (harmonium).<br style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); text-decoration-color: initial;">The second half begins with Gāmaka, a unique music-and-storytelling form presented by Harshini Seetharam with Shriram Rajagopalan (violin), and concludes with a special presentation on the tradition of Gurbāṇī Rāga Kīrtan, featuring Pavitar Singh Namdhari (vocals, taarshehnai), alongside Sunny Matharu (tabla), Didar Singh Namdhari (jori), and&nbsp;Gurcharan Singh (supporting vocals).<br style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); Remembering Dikshitar is a tribute to Muthuswami Dikshitar, one of the most revered and foundational composers in the Carnatic tradition.
