Welcome to the registration and fundraising page for the second annual "Widjiitiwin Special" - a canoe race in support of our campers! We are thrilled to be hosting this race on beautiful Mary Lake on June 14, 2025.

The Widjiitiwin Special is just that - special. It's a one-day event designed for families and friends of all ages to get into the summer mood with a bit of a competitive edge mixed in. All donations to the race and any profits from our registration fees support the Widjiitiwin program, which fulfills Muskoka Bible Centre’s vision by partnering with community leaders in priority neighborhoods providing children, youth, and families with camp and retreats to help them experience life changing and lasting transformation through encountering God’s great love for them.

For 2025, all Widjiitiwin Special funds will go towards reducing the fees that our campers have to pay to get to camp - we're planning to set a new Widjiitiwin Special fundraising record this year by raising the other $18,000 so that we can be ready for day one of camp!

There are two main ways that you can join us at the Widjiitiwin Special - you can race and you can fundraise. Here are three easy steps for you to follow:

  1. Register for your race category: sign up for one of the canoe races, or just sign up to fundraise!
  2. Share your fundraising page with friends and family: our goal for 2025 is to raise $18,000 for Widjiitiwin!
  3. Show up on race day: join us on race day starting at 10:00am for a few hours of racing, a BBQ and awards!

If you're not interested in racing this year, please consider supporting one of our race teams - whether they win or lose, all funds are crucial for helping our campers experience an incredible week of camp this summer at Widjiitiwin.

This year, the race distance is approximately four kilometers for our single distance races: from MBC's beach to Widjiitiwin Island and back! The Marathon Distance follows the same course, but involves doing four laps instead of one.

In 2025, we have four categories for you to consider:

  • Single Distance - Adult Canoe: This is the speed zone! We're looking for two adults (16+) willing to lay it all out and see who can complete the distance from MBC's beachfront, around Widjiitiwin Island and back again in the shortest amount of time. If you're the fastest, you're taking home the prize for 2025!
  • Single Distance - Family Canoe: If you're wanting your whole family to get involved, this is the race category for you. All canoes in the Family Canoe distance must have 2 adults (18+) in the canoe, as well as any number of 1-4 children (ages 0-12). Family Canoe participants will launch at the same time or in staggered heats, depending on the number of entrants in this category.
  • Marathon Distance - Adult Canoe: Looking for something a bit more challenging than a single 4 km race? We've got you covered with the Marathon Distance! You'll start at the same time as other marathon distance paddlers, and the team that covers four "laps" from MBC to Widjiitiwin Island and back will be our Marathon champions! (Note: this is changed from 2024: it's not a time-based event, but a distance-based event like everything else
  • Fundraising Champion: The team that raises the most money for this campaign will be crowned Fundraising Champion for 2025! The best part? You don't even have to get into a canoe. You can fundraise for Widjiitiwin from the comfort of your couch and still be the one at the top of this category in June.

NOTE: If you register for a canoe race and to fundraise, you are automatically entered into two categories. Technically, it's possible to register in three categories: the Single Distance - Adult and Single Distance - Family happen one after the other, so you can hop out of one race and into the other. As you'll see in the schedule below,  the Marathon Distance happens first and ends last, so you cannot compete in more than one canoe race if you choose the marathon.

Here's the plan for race day:

10:00am  |  Registration Check-In Opens (Beach Pavilion)

11:00am  |  Pre-Race Meeting for all racers (Marina Building)

12:00pm  | Start: Marathon Distance

1:00pm  |  Start: Single Distance - Adult

2:00pm  |  Start: Single Distance - Family

4:30pm  |  Awards Ceremony

This year's Widjiitiwin Special is going to be great, and we would love to have you there! Please reach out to us at widjiitiwin@muskokabible.com if you have any questions!
