Baja SAE uOttawa is a Collegiate Design Series team based at the John McEntyre Team Space (JMTS), located on the first floor of uOttawa’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Complex. Students involved in this project design, build and race off-road vehicles in competitions held by the Society of Automotive Engineers across North America.

The main competition consists of a four-hour off-road endurance race with a 160-vehicle mass start along with multiple dynamic events featuring towing, braking, maneuverability and a rock climb to quantify vehicle performance. Design and business presentations also account for 40% of the overall competition score.

Universities from across the continent take part in these events, hoping to make the podium. Our team is striving to beat our previous competition results of 28th out of 100 universities last year. Baja SAE team members include both Faculty of Engineering undergraduate and graduate students.

Our team is divided into multiple sub-teams, which work in parallel to complete various components of our vehicle. Sub-teams focus on chassis, drivetrain, ergonomics, suspension, brakes and electrical features. Students must create innovative designs that give us a competitive advantage yet are cost effective, to meet our project milestones.

From September 29 to October 2, 2022, we will be taking part in Baja SAE Arizona. Our team of young engineers is seeking support from the community and the engineering industry to go to Arizona! Businesses or individuals willing to donate will receive tax receipts for 2021. If you prefer to contribute via cheque, email bajauottawa@gmail.com or a member of our team for details.
