This 2026-2027 academic year, students in Criminology (starting with CRM 360: Criminalizing Global Migration) and a growing coalition of campus partners are engaged in a "We're Better Together: Our Canada Includes
Immigrants and Refugees!" Campaign inspired by the Canadian Council for Refugees and their partners' work (https://bettertogethercanada.ca/about/) to combat racism and exclusion and build more inclusive communities. Our November 25 2026 Walk with Uprooted People in support of FCJ Refugee Centre this Fall at TMU is one of our core activities! 🚶‍♀️🌍 By donating or (even better!) creating or joining a fundraising team (click fundraise above!), you help FCJ Refugee Centre provide concrete supports such as legal help, housing assistance, health care, a Youth Network, and a safe space for refugees and precarious migrants in our community. We will walk November 25th from the TMU Campus to Metro Hall. FCJ Refugee Centre is a Toronto-based organization that has been supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants for 35 years! By participating in the campaign, whether through fundraising, donating, volunteering, or organizing an initiative, TMU students and partners are helping ensure that refugees and migrants have access to the support they need and that their voices are recognized. Your steps, your solidarity! Every donation and 100% of every donation backs FCJ Refugee Centre’s work to challenge systemic barriers and uphold the dignity and rights of people seeking safety. Sign up, invite others, and walk in community as part of the We’re Better Together TMU Migrant Solidarity Campaign! The donations are also tax deductible. This 2026-2027 TMU students in Criminology and beyond(!) with campus and community partners are engaged in a "We're Better Together: Canada includes
Immigrants and Refugees" Campaign (https://bettertogethercanada.ca/about/) inspired by the Canadian Council for Refugees and their partners' work. This campaign foregrounds that in Canada we speak many languages, come from many places, and across our differences we must look out for each other! We join in rejecting those who use divide and conquer tactics to distract us while chipping away at the healthcare and services we all need and letting housing prices spiral. We want to be a country that welcomes newcomers, and we expect our leaders to make Canada a place where all families can thrive. CRM 360, "The Global Criminalization of Migration and Resistance" is a third year course that addresses the exclusion of migrants and refugees globally and foregrounds resistance to exclusionary policies and trends. It engages in proactive acts of solidarity with migrants and immigrants in Toronto. Our November 25 2026 Walk with Uprooted People in support of FCJ Refugee Centre this Fall at TMU is one of our core activities! 🚶‍♀️🌍 By donating or (even better!) creating or joining a fundraising team, you help FCJ Refugee Centre provide concrete supports such as legal help, housing assistance, health care, a Youth Network, and a safe space for refugees and precarious migrants in our community. We will walk from the TMU campus to Metro Hall. FCJ Refugee Centre is a Toronto-based organization that has been supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants for 35 years. By participating in the campaign, whether through fundraising, donating, volunteering, or organizing an initiative, TMU students and partners are helping ensure that refugees and migrants have access to the support they need and that their voices are recognized. We encourage you to check out the individual pages of our students and make a donation to one of them to encourage them in their work to support vulnerable members of our community! Your steps, your solidarity! Every donation (100% of every donation!) backs FCJ Refugee Centre’s work to challenge systemic barriers and uphold the dignity and rights of people seeking safety.
