Sponsor a Pacific Tree Frog

During the warmer months at Maplewood Flats you can hear the choruses of male Pacific Tree Frogs as they call in unison to attract females. These small frogs can produce quite a large call for their size, at only being five centimetres in length.

Adult tree frogs eat a variety of insects and they are also apart of the food chain. They are preyed on by snakes, mammals, and many birds like the blue heron. They can be found in woodlands, meadows, pastures and wetlands. Pacific Tree Frogs are currently on the provincial Yellow List, which means that the population may decline if the loss of wetlands continues.

At Maplewood Flats we have three wetlands that are managed and are in the process of being restored. It is integral that we get support to continue managing these wetlands, as wetlands are a crucial habitat that continues to be lost across the globe. (Currently, wetlands are disappearing three times faster than forests.)

At Maplewood Flats our mission is to provide wild birds with sanctuary through ecological protection and restoration. Which will also further support habitat for other animals like the Pacific Tree Frog.
