The sun comes up over a frosty, cold landscape with the pink and blue dawn of January. This quiet start to the year is a beautiful opportunity to appreciate the dedicated birds that continue to flutter from branch to branch, forage the forest floor, or fish in the salt and fresh water of Stanley Park. Join us for this year’s first installment of our monthly birding program, Birds of a Feather! This month, award winning photographer and birder, as well as long-time SPES partner, Liron Gertsman, takes us on a relaxed, interpretive outing around Lost Lagoon to explore seasonal and year-round feathered residents. No birding knowledge or experience necessary, just bring your curiosity and enjoy nature with each other!
Liron Gertsman is an accomplished nature photographer with his work being featured in publications like The Guardian, Canadian Geographic, and GEO Magazine. His work has also been featured in international museums like the Smithsonian in Washington DC and the Natural History Museum in London. Liron has a degree in Biology from UBC, which he uses to enhance his passion for art and visual storytelling, providing a scientific background to inform his understanding of the natural world. At Stanley Park Ecology Society, we are lucky to have had Liron dedicate his time and passion through education and bird monitoring since he was 10 years old! You can learn more about Liron’s work on his website (lirongertsman.com).
