Legendary Father GQ Telfar Balenciaga is leading an Open-level workshop for YEG Ballroom in Realness!&nbsp; Location: Ukrainian Centre - 11018 97 St NWDate: Thursday, May 22, 2025Time: 8:30PM - 10PM MSTAttire: Clean indoor footwear please Open to all levels. No spectators permitted. GQ &ldquo;Father Telfar&rdquo; Balenciaga&rsquo;s ballroom story begins in 2015, when he was first brought to the House of Pink Lady&rsquo;s &ldquo;Pink is the New Black&rdquo; ball, and his friends were in the Grand March. Not long after the ball, he joined the Kiki House of Pink Lady and started walking balls. On Halloween 2016, he got in drags for the first time and this was when he decided he wanted to start walking balls, as Aria Braxton. This would be the turning point in GQ&rsquo;s ballroom career, as he ended up winning a few balls in Toronto &amp; Montreal, and was awarded TKBA&rsquo;s 2018 Drags Face Of The Year. This same year, GQ added Schoolboy Realness to his roster of categories making history as the first person to have success in both Drag Face &amp; Butch Queen Realness categories in Canada. GQ has been Canada&rsquo;s reigning schoolboy from 2018 -2022, winning balls coast-to-coast, and internationally. Upon walking internationally, he decided to make the Iconic House of Balenciaga &nbsp;AKA The House Of Champions his chosen family. GQ was awarded &ldquo;Canada&rsquo;s Finest&rdquo; at the 2022 SouthEast Ballroom Awards. His most recent accomplishment is being a Father to some of TKBA&rsquo;s best rising stars. In December 2021, The Artistic Haus of Telfar debuted in Toronto under his leadership, winning new House Of The Year and Father Of The Year and The Haus Of Telfar won the highest prize given to any Kiki house in Canada twics $2k house with the most points. Being a father has given him the opportunity to give back to the community and to be a mentor to many, but specifically Young Black Gay Men, which he says is one of the principal reasons he enjoys being in ballroom. YEG Ballroom (est. 2023) is a non-profit that cultivates the Kiki House Ballroom community in Treaty 6 territory, where 2SLGBTQIA+ youth can turn to one another for support and to express themselves. Workshop is open to all ages, but there may be mature language in the music/space. We ask all adults accompanying anyone under 18 that they email yegballroom@gmail.com to confirm their attendance before coming to a session.
