A derogation to increase the age limit may be obtained for a participant studying full-time in a university music program. Winners are not eligible to compete again in their category. If he/she is a soloist, he/she may perform as an ensemble musician, and vice-versa. The works chosen must be part of the classical repertoire or be of classical style: if in doubt, please have your repertoire approved. GENERAL INFORMATIONClasses are open to all non-amplified instruments. Guitar strings must be nylon (classical guitar). Participants may not compete in both the festival and recital classes. Participants in the Canadian Music Competition may not enter the Festival class. They may compete in the Recital and/or Concerto classes. The three annual winners are chosen in the Recital class. Memorization of works is MANDATORY for all participants. Any work not memorized will incur a penalty of 5 points. Only accompanied sonatas and chamber music/vocal ensemble may be played with scores. Participants must be careful not to exceed the time limit for their program. It is important to note that the time limit is an overall limit granted to you, including set-up time and time between pieces. Trade-ins are accepted as long as the time limit is respected. Failure to comply will result in a penalty of 5 points on your total score. If necessary, candidates must secure the services of a collaborating pianist and assume the cost. Participants must be careful not to exceed the time limit for their program. It is important to note that the time limit is an overall limit granted to you, including set-up time and time between pieces. Trade-ins are accepted as long as the time limit is respected. Failure to comply will result in a penalty of 5 points on your total score. If necessary, candidates must secure the services of a collaborating pianist and assume the cost. At the time of registration, the participant's file must be complete: form.
