ABOUT THE ARTIST vjk is an artist working in dance, embodied movement, and performative installations. Her creative work and practice consider locating, emphasizing, and indulging in experiences of pleasure. She completed her MFA in Contemporary Dance Choreography at York University, worked as an Assistant Professor in the Fine Arts Dance Department at York University, and has been presented by Summerworks, the Rhubarb Festival, PS: we are all here, Dance Matters, Huntclub Studio, Guelph Dance, Sign6 (Brussels), Lake Studios (Berlin), Videofag, HUB14 and The Toronto Love In. Other career highlights include performing for: Adidas world tour (Spain, France, Germany, Italy 2017); Berlin-based artist Isabel Lewis in Occasions (AGO); Andrew Tay in WorkingOn WorkingOnUs (Rhubarb 2016; PS: We are all here 2016); Anandam Dance in Glaciology (Nathan Phillips Square); Trisha Brown Company (Nuit Blanche); DA Hoskins/The Dietrich Group in The Coating Project (Luminato), Derek Liddington in The Sun Always Rises in the East (Nuit Blanche), The Broadbent Sisters (AGO Massive), Janis Claxton (Ireland Dance House), and Kaitlyn Reaghr (TIFF LIGHTBOX). vjk was a previous Lover at Toronto Dance Community Love In, a Co-chair for their Board of Directors, the founder of Window Sightings, recipient of a CSARN mentorship program, and facilitator of New Youth Toronto (Youth Mentorship Program generously supported by the OAC, in partnership with AccessAlliance).
