Ticket to Peace and Hope

We hope you will join The Rotary Club of Bracebridge for a beautiful evening of fundraising and sharing stories of peace and hope in our local community and the world.  You will be treated to delicious traditional Syrian and Ukrainian buffet prepared by the culinary classes at BMLSS. The first is to support The Central Muskoka Community Syrian Relief Committee who is sponsoring a Syrian family of six to start a new life in Bracebridge, Canada as Permanent Residents.  They have been living in unfavourable conditions in Erbil, Iraq for the last two years.  However, they are in the final stages of processing by our federal government and we expect they may arrive shortly!  They may even be in Bracebridge to attend our event!! She is currently the Director of Policy and Research with the Canadian Organic Growers. Previously, she was the Programs Manager at Land Core, a nonprofit organization advancing soil health in the United States through federal policy, soil health risk modelling research, and education. Katie also co-founded the Rainmaker Enterprise, a refugee-led organization installing solar-powered water systems for health, food security, peace and climate adaptation in South Sudan. She serves on the Boards of Rainmaker and the Canada Africa Partnership (CAP) Network, where she previously worked as a Network Coordinator and co-launched the Africa Climate Action Initiative, supporting civil society organizations in promoting agroecology as a climate solution. Katie holds an MA in Conflict, Security and Development from King’s College London where she was a Rotary Global Grant Scholar, and a BA in Peace, Conflict and Justice Studies from the University of Toronto. For the past three years, she coordinated the Bikes for Climate Hub, distributing repaired bicycles under Transform TO’s neighbourhood climate action grant program in North Etobicoke.
