Public registration is open! We are especially seeking fighters who are underrepresented in North American sumo. This includes people who identify as women, non-binary, trans, queer, Indigenous, Black and/or a person of colour. All spots are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please register in the appropriate weight category and if interested, the open weight category. We especially encourage lightweight competitors to register for the open-weight category. Details In partnership with Powell Street Festival Society (PSFS), Sumo Sundays is pleased to host our first indoor sumo exhibition in Vancouver, B.C. Taking place on Sunday, June 9, 2024, competitors will have the opportunity to compete in a double-elimination format in up to two categories:<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Lightweight: 80kg (176lbs) and under (max. 14 competitors)</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Heavyweight: over 80kg (176lbs) (max. 14 competitors)</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Open weight (max. 14 competitors)</li></ul>As a reminder, Sumo Sundays values an all-bodies approach to sumo, meaning all sizes, experiences and genders are welcome to participate. All matches will be open-gender and to ensure fair play, we will require competitors to wear a top and bottom underneath the mawashi, and wear a mouthguard. Competitors are welcome to bring their own mawashi or use the ones we have available for use. Schedule Our event begins at 1 pm. However, we ask competitors to arrive at 11:45 am for sign-in, warm-up and to have their mawashi tied.
